I think I maybe need to clarify, I'm not being a Darwin hype man because I really rate him, I'm saying that Joao Pedro isn't actually much of an improvement on him. Pedro got 20 goals last season because he took all of Brighton's penalties. As a top level centre forward, he's pretty unremarkable in terms of his all round game.

All of these things are true, but Pedro is not that good either. He just takes Brighton's penalties. Darwin outscored him last season, and he wears Nike sponsored clown shoes. Oh, and he dives, a lot.

My stepdad is a season ticket holder at Brighton and doesn't really rate him. Wellbeck is better than Pedro.

Right, so all players with a high level of ability and high ceilings who (due to advantageous circumstances) were signed for similar ballpark figures to the players that you cited then?

That's just not true. As an example, Calafiori, Mamardashvilli, Savinho, Kim Min Jae, Ousmane Dembele, Kulusevski, Cole Palmer, Mateus Cunha, Lucas Hernandez, Kudus, all of these moved in the last two seasons in the £30m - £45m range. Those players are all similar profile to the sort of players you're referring to there.

I do wonder what Gerrard's next move is after this. It seems like he's on the verge of getting sacked there and he's destroyed all of the credibility that he had from his spell at Rangers. Once he's done there, it wouldn't surprise me if he just became a pundit or something like that.

In fairness, I probably shouldn't have even posted that, regardless of whether it's true or not. Loads of journalists parrot what the club feeds them, it's irrelevant how Mel would have ended up with that information and I can see that actually it came across kind of misogynist. That wasn't what I meant, but my bad on that one.
