Match Topic Liverpool vs Everton - Premier League, 2nd April @ 8pm

Still do that religiously, then boo if they don't acknowledge. Have told my lad it's the law and non-negotiable; it's hard to do it for a prick like Pickford, but no exceptions. A fair few on The Kop still did it, TBF, from my Main Stand viewpoint, but not as many as normal. -

Saw a documentary on Sky about Souness, heard there for the first time that the main reason he left for Italy was because his wife, as the heiress to,iirc, the Famous Army Stores retail chain, was facing a huge inheritance (or capital gains) tax bill, so they wanted out of the country to avoid it. Which is an ...interesting... perspective

Jari Litmanen Fernando Morientes Brilliant players, no doubt, but never quite got the game time or had the impact I expected and moved on too quickly

Phew. Thought I was the only one thinking this. The goal was horrific from any point of view, but other than that I saw it as flatness and overplaying and wasn't worried that we wouldn't or couldn't up our game at any time if it got critical, as it did - and we did. -

Match Topic Liverpool vs Newcastle United - Premier League, 26th February @ 8:15pm

I think Taylor has improved massively on his on-field demeanour and authority - he could get bullied and looked like a frightened rabbit; Webb, being an ex-copper, had that authoritative demeanour in spades, of course. As with Webb, though, I remain to be convinced that Taylor's decision making is elite, although it is definitely no worse than that of most of the other Refs (and better than Webb's) -
He kind of did the Bergkamp thing when he dummied the goalkeeper and ran round and collected it himself - 1970 WC. Then missed the open goal.

Didn't get that as much as thinking Guy Mowbray must have some kind of cognitive disorder. How anyone professionally involved in Football could say the game appeared even as he did beggars belief. And laughed at the suggestion the Salah penalty should have been given with the evidence on screen right in front of everyone. He's a tosser -
All the Stuttgart fans were saying this - he would become a cult hero. They were right. Love him to bits.

Yeah, I just checked an old You Tube favourite - Rush's fantastic hat-trick at a frozen Villa Park - and that was a televised Friday night game from 1984, so I was well out about 1989. -

Probably. I'm sure there was something in the constitution of the League that it was not authorised beyond the Friday date - based on the contract between the FL and the FA to run a competition, possibly? - which was enforced rather than waived. Not sure ITV would have had much leverage in those days - in fact a Live televised League match was a one-off in 89, surely? Maybe not, all a long time ago now. -

The Friday night was down to the FA not being prepared to let the season run past that date - so we played 3 games plus 30 minutes in 6 days, while Arsenal had not played for 2 weeks. Never forget what b*****ds the FA were in all of this. They had had a fixture backlog though, as they took advantage of the open invite for all clubs to cancel post-Hillsborough matches for a short period. That their postponed matches happened to match exactly with their top goalscorer's injury (Alan Smith) was entirely coincidental. FWIW, I smirked recently when the Hull City manager - Liam Rosenior - was sacked. I blame his Dad - Leroy - who scored a late goal for West Ham on the Tuesday to make 4-0 into 4-1. Without that dent in GD, we win the league on the Friday with ease. My abiding memory was how awesome we were that Friday - absolute heroes. We were out on our feet, understandably so, but so nearly won it against a savvy, tough Arsenal team, having hunted them down remorselessly from about February - and this only 6 weeks or so after Hillsborough. I've never been prouder of them- 711 replies

He reffed us against Arsenal a few years back, and was excellent to the point I shared a video of how well he did to give the penalty against David Luiz on Salah - he sprinted past the Arsenal players getting back and then steadied himself in just the right position to call the foul -, but that seems years ago compared to the clown show of arrogant ineptitude he has become.

Match Topic Everton Vs Liverpool - Premier League, 12th February @ 7.30pm
JRC replied to ynwa.tv's topic in Liverpool FC
Yeah, as with Newcastle, what I'm taking is that we went away to difficult grounds and without playing well we dug out performances that took us within seconds of a gritty win. In both we managed leading the game pretty well until the final second - neither Newcastle nor Everton equalised because they were battering us at the end, more the usual combination of contingent, fine margin s*** dropping the wrong way. A draw was probably fair - and a result I would have probably taken beforehand - but a win if that shot misses would have been a real characterful and thus deserved one. -
Everton's results have been good, no doubt, and fair play to them and Moyes. But the 3 teams they beat are genuinely terrible at the moment, which we knew with Spurs and Leicester, and Brighton confirmed yesterday. Not sure Dyche wouldn't have won those games anyway - albeit with fewer goals. Agree it's better to go there with them thinking they can match us at football rather than to a hellish dogfight.
