I think he was expecting a better reception than he got - and was certainly entitled to - but the way he conducted himself over his 'contract discussions' and his eventual move genuinely hurt a lot of people as did his perceived greater love of an England shirt. Sometimes thoug, life is not fair - but, rightly or wrongly I always got the impression toward the end that Owen and his advisors were flushed with the indignity of what he had done for Liverpool and had forgotten entirely what Liverpool had done for him.
