What you've described is simply kicking the ball. I'm in the immediately after it has bounced camp- so that it just misses out on being a volley. Whilst we're on the subject some commentators/journalists describe a shot hit first time (ie Garcia v Chelsea, Juve) as a volley. Crazy!

Incredible - I was going to start a thread on exactly this topic this morning!!! From what I remember the list had people like John Toshack, Ronnie Moran, Roy Evans, Ron Yeats, Phil Neal on it - very few outsiders. Roy Evans would have been a steadier pair of hands, however for an outsider appointment there were very few good managers aroumd at the time. In hindsight Bobby Robson would have been a great choice.

Totally agree with that. Now it's about the team winning medals and not just Stevie G. Only thing that niggles me is that he will have 3 years left on his contract at the end of this season and so would need to sign a new one next summer. I do fear a season of speculation again next season as at the end of it he would need to sign again or be sold. But well in Stevie - spoken like a true captain.

get a new contract in the summer? He could retire if he wanted having finished his career scoring goals at Liverpool and finishing his "unfinished business". We have had the chance to hail God again. It could turn sour next year if there are other younger strikers who are bank on form and scoring goals, and Fowler doesn't get a look in - he could become this year's Hamman with sightings less frequent that Lord Lucan.

I also have a nagging feeling that he won't keep him if he gets the strikers in that he wants. I think one of the reasons Houllier got shot is that he was sick of all of the questions at press conferences about Fowler and it was detracting from the team which is what Rafa and Houllier value above all else. However having said that there are a lot of signs he will stay - getting him fit for the last 4 games doesn't make much sense, and he often talks about the passion that Fowler has for the club.

Points wise that is the case, but the crucial difference is that now we are playing with a higher defensive line and have a mentality to keep on attacking till we get 2 or 3 goals. Like it or not we were a counter attacking team under Houllier and that only gets you so far in the long term.

Haven't seen us score one for ages, and there seems to be a general decline. Players just prod a leg at those inviting crosses these days. Anyonewith me on this?

That's it them - Bellamy and Bent are both coming. Posted a few weeks ago that Aldo was going on about the pair of them during one of his commentaries amd that both would be ideal for Liverpool. Really bigging up Bent. I thought it was strange him mentioning Bellamy and wondered if he had an inside track.

What makes you think that? Even at full prices?

1) The figure is now £160m for the new stadium - if this £40m is down to steel prices it still represents a 33% increase on the revised costs. It still seems to be the major sensitivity. 2) It seems to me that stadia project costs always significantly overrun. If they were getting quotes of £80m originally they should have done as much as they could to tie people down to that. 3) I share that worry, nobody seems to be able to confidently predict footballing trends. For example people have been saying for years that TV will hit attendances but it seems harde to get a ticket for Liverpool now than ever. What would it be like if we developed a real flair team ( a la Barnes, Beardsley side)?

Anyone noticed how Aldo on Radio City keeps mentioning Bellamy's name, along with Bent's, as players who are "options" for the summer. I always think that (maybe cynically) that he is given the nod to talk about some of these things just to get the fans used to the idea.

I took my missus to most home games for a couple of seasons in the 90's (she was my girlfirend at that point and I was living away but coming up at weekends). It all stopped when I caught her reading Cosmopolitan magazine during the game against Chelsea, when Berger scored a hatrick. I couldn't allow myself to let her take a seat from a true red.
