  1. Moores wouldn't have been able to press on and sell his shares because if the other 49% minority weren't going to sell, DIC wouldn't have bought any shares. Not questioning your wisdom, but I'm not quite sure why DIC wouldn't have just bought Moores stake and worked on the rest. They would effectively have control anyway. £4,500 to Moores, then offer Granada or whoever £5,000 later. I'm not quite sure they ever would have got to 90% anyway. If I owned 1...2..3..4..or how many shares, I would not want to part with them and I'm sure many small holders wouldn't want to either [please speak up if you hold any]. It would be interesting to know what percentage of the club are owned by small stakeholders....and no, I don't mean midget vampire killers!!
  2. All very true. The other thing that is different in hockey [and all N. A. sports for that matter] is that there is a draft system. Let's take Bale as an example. At the right age he would go in the draft and if that was this year, but bottom teams get first pick [a little more complicated [lottery] than that but]. Bale would likely end up at Watford, Charlton or one of the others. This is meant to level things out. So as Ginu says it's just not the same.
  3. I LOVE IT!!! Still makes me nervous though that an outsider may f*ck it all up!
  4. Here here!!
  5. We've spent more than ManU. Their tune will change with a few injuries and the loss of aging players. Don't expect the Glazers to get all teary eyed and borrow from elsewhere to keep it going.
  6. Becuae they just don' t get football and the type of sport he is involved in is just run totally different to football.
  7. Also DIC have taken two months to get this far, while Gillett does due diligence in 3 gays??? Still not keen on the idea of the club being owned by Yanks!!
  8. Darbyshire is looking not bad. Will be interesting to see how he progresses
  9. Okay, maybe I'm not too bright...what's the significance of the pop corn eating?
  10. £5 and cheese and onion crisps
  11. I think a good example would be Coca Cola. If you wanted to buy that Company it would cost a fortune, while very little of it would be hard assets like buildings, machinery, vehicles etc. The biggest cost would be for Goodwill [the Coca Cola name]. The cost of acquiring the asset "Goodwill" would be a very real huge cash outlay, and while Goodwill is not a physical asset it would show as an asset on the balance sheet and be amortized. In much the same way, anything that DIC pay over hard assests would be for the goodwill of LFC, which could be developed and improved...hopefully. While Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher probably represent very little in assest value on the balance sheet, DIC would, of course, recognize that they are, in reality worth a lot of money. Waits patiently to have theory blown away by boohog!!
  12. But, Maldini....Italy lost
  13. FAO fyds - You being a minority shareholder, how do you feel about all this. I know if I had 1...2....3 shares, I would be happy with the DIC involvement, but wouldn't want to give up my shares. Thoughts?
  14. Is it Spurs? Jol stays quiet on bids for duo By Mark Buckingham - Created on 22 Jan 2007 MEET YOUR SPURS HERO Grab the chance to make your Tottenham hero PFA player of the month! Get VIP match treatment and a signed photo Related links Team Pages: Tottenham Hotspur Southampton Benfica Player Pages: Gareth Bale Ricardo Rocha Martin Jol is keeping tight-lipped on reports Tottenham Hotspur have made bids to sign Ricardo Rocha and Gareth Bale. Speculation in Portugal has claimed that Spurs are close to completing a £3.3million deal for centre-half Rocha. But while Jol is aware of the defender, he is refusing to fuel any rumours and is sticking to his policy of staying quiet about his transfer targets. "I know his name, he is a good player from Benfica," Jol told Sky Sports News. "My fellow countryman Ronald Koeman was his coach, but that is the only thing. "There are other players at Benfica that I can tell you about. "We never talk about players, and if he comes in, or if other players come in, we will let you know." There have been reports that a Premiership club have lodged a £10million bid for Southampton's teenage full-back Bale. Spurs have been mooted as admirers of the Wales international, but Jol was not expanding on any interest in the 17-year-old. He added: "That is the same thing. If we would have done, we wouldn't have told you. "That is private and a thing you have to do privately in England. "If a deal will be done, we will tell you."
  15. Let's think positive, maybe this will light a fire under DIC and if it doesn't they probably are not concerned.
  16. Didn't post it for the Sami part. Just pointing out that WHU supporters seem to like Mascherano.
  17. Interesting that WHU fans would like to keep him. http://www.westhamfans.org/latest-news/liv...o-from-west-ham Liverpool have applied to FIFA to waive the rule preventing a footballer playing for more than two clubs in one season in the case of Javier Mascherano. MSI who own the Argentine International's registration, are believed to be using the restriction of practice law as they believe that their player is being prevented from playing by not being allowed to move to Anfield from the Boleyn. Intriguingly, Sami Hypia might be offered in a part exchange deal, Hammers need for a strong experienced defender is more than obvious given the current injury crisis, but would he want to move to a club fighting relegation? Recently sidelined with a hamstring injury, Hypia is one of Rafael Benitez's stalwarts, but at 34 years old he could be sacrificed to bring Masherano to Liverpool along with a fee of around £4 Million. Benitez has long been a fan of Mascherano, but then again most West Ham fans have long been fans of Mascherano, however neither Alan Pardew nor Alan Curbishley have not chose to use him for goodness knows what reason, rumours of payments per game don't really ring true bearing in mind the substantial funds in place at West Ham at the moment. Eggert Magnusson was disturbed by the various clauses in the contracts for both Mascherano and his International colleague Carlos Tevez, but Tevez has recently been in the starting line up and the club look happy to keep him, it is unlikely that Masher has been disruptive as he is a genial character, so what is the reason for keeping one and getting rid of the other? Perhaps although the players arrived together their contracts may differ, it can be the only sensible explanation, there may be a trigger clause that Hammers have to pay if they both stay, who knows? But to any observer it seems a strange way to run a football club. - Ed
  18. LiverpooI look to Leto By Patricio Figueroa - Created on 9 Jan 2007 MEET YOUR FOOTBALL HERO Vote in the Fans' Player Awards and you could get to meet your football hero plus VIP match treatment and a signed photo. Related links Team Pages: Liverpool Argentine club Lanus claim Liverpool are in discussions to sign promising midfielder Sebastian Leto. The 20-year-old has been tracked by Argentinian giants River Plate, while an unnamed Spanish club are also rumoured to be keen. But Lanus have now broken off negotiations with River Plate and have revealed talks are taking place with Liverpool. A fee of £1.85million has been mooted for Leto, with Lanus vice-president Ruben Ferreti hopeful of concluding a deal with the Premiership club. "We have ended the conversations with River because they say that Leto is too expensive for their budget, but we have an expectation because we have received phone calls from Liverpool for the player," Ferreti told www.ole.com.ar. "It seems to be that they would accept what we want for the player. "Liverpool is interested, but we have to keep on having conversations. Nothing has been agreed yet. "I think that the negotiations are going in the right way and, if we arrange something with Liverpool, it will surely be before the end of this week." If Liverpool do tie up a deal for Leto, he will become the second Argentine youngster to move to Anfield in the past year after Gabriel Paletta. The centre-half joined The Reds from Banfield last summer, although he has yet to make a significant impact on Merseyside.
  19. No Riise at all....Rafa reads the forum?!
  20. Moyes really does look like Gollum!!
  21. I live in Canada and have no clue what a CAGR is. That doesn't make me stupid. The house anaolgy was to simplify it so that many on here would understand the leverage part. Many many many people in the U.K. have gained amazing equity in their homes when they started with little or no downpayment...quite simply that is leverage. Yes there is a cost of carrying a mortgage etc., but so is there a cost in renting. I still fail to see why, if DIC are as wealthy as they are and if they think LFC is a good deal they need to get others involved. With their clout they must be able to borrow very cheaply, even if they wish come up with a minimal amount of cash [to leverage the deal] I think they look at this more as a way to promote themselves while maybe enhancing the value of the asset. As I said earlier, if it was a huge money spinner, investors would be lining up. It's the fact there's no need to get others involved that makes me doubt the original article.
  22. Firstly, you have no clue that I don't understand what I am talking about. I'd suggest that I understand these things far more than you have a clue. I admit I did generalize it and I fully understand leverage. Someone buys a house with £10,000 down and it goes up in value £40,000 the leverage is tremendous...and the same thing applies in business, I've just simplified the example...I get that. All I'm suggesting is that DIC are plenty wealthy enough to not need to bring other people into it. You state "There are many private equity companies who wouldn't touch a deal that only offered a 25% return and look for more like 40% p.a. 25% p.a. forecast returns for companies like that on certain assets are not high at all because out of their portfolio of leveraged assets, they may easily have say 1-2 in 10 that fail and they lose their entire equity stake" and this is very true, but that's more applicable to Venture Capital, LFC is hardly a venture that represents high risk, it's a brand [albeit maybe untapped] that has been around for over a Century. I'd suggest that if a 25% per annum return was available, they'd be queing up to buy us. I think his article is basically crap...that said it would be nice to hear the Club &/or DIC come out and say that?!
  23. I'd suggest that if they can make 25% per year on their investment, like the article says, they'd want to keep it for themselves not farm it out. That's a huge return. In 7 years the £500 Million would become £2,384 Million which quite clearly is a load of crap.
  24. You mean like the similar amount Arsenal paid for Henry and Van Persie......Chelsea just made idiots [ I mean bigger idiots ] of themselves buying Shevchenko. If Rafa had paid £32 Million for him, he'd seriously need an IQ test. He was a great player...that for a 30 year old striker = stupidity. It's not the £ figure that matters, it's buying the right ones.
