What he said. There are too many of these package deals for my liking but whilst they are still out there you may as well take advantage or someone else will. I can see why people might feel it is a bit unfair for someone who has never been before to somehow get a ticket for the derby, but how many of those same people would turn down a ticket for, say, Celtic v Rangers, Milan v Inter or Real v Barca, if they were prepared to do the travelling required, on the basis that it wouldn't be fair? Don't get me wrong, I can see why people aren't totally comfortable with this and I suppose I would even say to glen celtic to make sure that his next visit is to a 'lesser' game. What takes the piss is people who only ever want to go to the 'big' games - not someone planning a one-off trip for their kids' birthday. These deals do cut down other people's chances of getting there (myself included as I only share a season ticket) but glen celtic sounds more deserving than some who get tickets this way. NB I don't think the stadium tour is available on match days, though I may be wrong. Take your son over to have a look at Goodison instead and show him what grounds used to look like when they were still made of wood and people were happy to sit behind big pillars. Like stepping back in time it is.

Got £30 ones this morning. Struggling to think of any examples in recent years of people who we've sent out on loan and who then come back and become real stars for us. Warnock is probably the one who has come closest to becoming a first teamer. Am I overlooking someone obvious? I know it has worked ok for the Mancs with the likes of Beckham, but given our track record I'd rather we kept them here and eased them into things. Having said that, it does seem to be more a part of the game these days and maybe in the past part of the problem has been that we've loaned people out a bit late (e.g. Raven, Potter etc whose days were already numbered).

So in summary we have 2 top class central midfielders, another hopefully on his way to way becoming top class and then a mix of untested new buys/kids or people returning from injury (though you did miss out Garcia). I'll wait and see how things pan out before judging our midfield against that of other clubs. We do have strength there and I am optimistic but I'm not just going to assume that everything anv every player will develop exactly to plan.

Any new signing carries a degree of risk but to be honest if we paid £7m for someone and they contributed less than Kewell has in the last 2 and a half years then it would some failure. I don't claim to have an encyclopedic knowledge of Euopean football but if Duff has just gone for £5m then I'm sure there must be other good deals out there. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem wit Kewell and will be quite happy if we keep him. However, I would imagine that if Rafa was offered £7m for him then he would see it as good business and would have a clear idea of how such a deal could strengthen the side / who to bring in etc - especially as he has bought 2 left sided players this summer. Of course there is no way in the world that anone would pay £7m for Kewell at the moment as others have pointed out (and can I join you in reiterating that it is Spyrs, not us, after Downing - donlt know how that idea creot into the thread). Sorry, that is stretching things massively. He had an impressive couple of months at an important time but has to be behind Gerrard, Alonso, Carragher, Sami, Momo, Finnan and Reina at least and probably a couple more as well. When RVN has just gone for £10m and Duff for £5m? He might (and I say might) have been worth that when we got him on the cheap, but no way is he now. It is 3 years or more since he conistently performed at well at the top level.

Maybe let those youngsters play a few first team games first, as Gerrard had done when Didi made those comments, and then see what people have to say about. And in any case, as others have said, if you expecting us to churn out Gerrard's all the time then you are going to be very disappointed. Players like him come along ver, very rarely - he is already in many people's top 3 Liverpool players of all time. It is only in recent years that red cards have proliferated though really, isn't? Up until, say, the mid to late 80s you had to do something pretty f***ing bad to get sent off, whether it was a final or not. Now people get sent off for much less. I suspect that in years to come, there will be more and more red cards in finals.

Did anyone else think that it just didn't feel right, all the players touching, kissing and (in Gattuso's case) actually picking up thr cup before it had been awarded to the captain? I know a couple of ours did it in Istanbul but not enough of them for it to be an issue particularly. I just feel that it is the right of the captain to be the first to touch the cup. I suppose you just get carried away in the emotion of the moment but I just admit I wish they would hold the cup back until the captain arrives.

But only in the sense that we are saving on his wages unfortunately (if it is definite that we won't be getting a fee). Ultimately, if that is the case, we are taking a 5m loss on him but I think that has been inevitable for a couple of years really as his injury record was always likely to disuade anyone from paying a fee.

Think he played for the Under 23 side they put out in the Olympics a few years ago (I'm guessing 2000?) and apparently did really well but don't think he has played for the full side.

As a player, the best thing I can say about him was that he was better than Nicky Tanner. As a coach? I guess we'll find out.
