He's 6 foot 5. Not sure how quick he is, but I doubt he'd be good at fullback.

The first was pretty bad too. Wasn't the most devilish of free kicks, and the Lynon players weren't even that close to it. Really hope the Mancs stick with Onana and give him the support he needs to continue in goal for them. -

PSG already have the French league tied up as of last weekend, so can entirely focus on CL. They're another club I can't stand, but then aside from Dortmund (or Inter, who won't wit anyway), I don't love any of the teams left. And PSG play some absolutely fantastic football. Barcelona are great attacking, but they defend a bit like Spurs. -

Fair play to them. They dominated Real even more than we did and scored three cracking goals. Their intensity was insane, but hopefully that will take its toll against Brentford. -

Yep, you are right. Just watched it again in super slo mo. He dropped his shoulder to go left, and then Camavinga falls on Saka's right ankle. I thought the foul was given against the other Real player who was close but didn't touch him. Could be bad ankle damage there if he's unlucky. -

Would have to see it from a different angle, but looked like he took a dive and hurt his ankle in the process. -

Ridiculous goals. Not sure which was better. Wall was terrible for both, but still amazing goals. They only showed one replay of the 'foul' for the second, but looked like Saka took a dive. -
Combination of things imo. Teams have maybe figured us out a bit, Mo's form has dropped off a lot, Gravenberch has looked goosed since Xmas and playing 2 games a week for so many weeks running definitely had an impact on all our players, both physically and mentally. No meaningful center forward has also cost us. Says a lot that Diaz up front has been the least s*** out of him, Nunez and (post injury) Jota, and I don't think he even scored while playing up front. And putting all else aside, we do miss Trent, even when he chooses not to defend, since he contributes so much to our forward play and link up with Mo.

Ooft. Had completely forgotten about him. Obviously been super unlucky with injuries, but coming up to 3 years since we signed him, and according to Wiki, he's only played in 25 games, a good few of which were sub appearances.

Real shame that 5 teams will qualify this year. It's come down to who out of Newcastle, Chelsea and City - all awful awful clubs - we feel least crappy about being in the CL. Would be nice if Villa can take one of the 5 spots, so that (assuming Forest don't s*** the bed) only one of the 3 awful clubs can qualify. -

Alisson is just such a good keeper, he makes saves like that look pretty straightforward, and then of course makes all sorts of other amazing saves that you think he just has no right to save. But you're right re the defence. Was keystone cops from all of them really. Jones gets something of a pass cos he was playing out of position, but the other 3 all forgot to install their brains before the game. -

Yeah, the third was a poor goal from a keeper's perspective. Went right through him. Ali would likely have saved that, and might even have saved one of the first two on a good day. -

Our defence was like we had Scales, Ruddock and Bjornebye back playing again. Up to you if you want to subject yourself to that. I can understand taking Robo off after that performance, but once he did that, it pretty much neutralized Diaz who was on his own out there. -

Unusually terrible defending for all 3 goals. Really shot outselves in the foot again and again. Can't really complain about the second half, as we dominated and should really have scored at least one more. Annoying to lose against a team that was so comprehensively beaten by Palace a week ago. -
Yep. The PGMOL, led by Webb, and his band of egotistical referees are in it for themselves not the game. And there's no long term accountability for their mistakes. Their decisions are driven by transient current narratives, wanting to be part of the story and what they think is best of them and their weird pally cult. It's a pity there aren't more ex professionals becoming refs. Like you don't expect Messi to retire and become a ref, but some lower league player who wants to carry on contributing to the game and understands the game would do much better than this bunch of ex policeman led weirdos.
-
The whole going over to the screen to take a look thing is also a weird part of the whole thing, since in 99% of cases, as soon as they are told to look at the monitor, they change their mind about their original decision, so we might as well just say "VAR has overturned this decision" and save the theatre of the ref going to have a look and then agreeing with VAR.

I have no problem with the Nunez yellow for rolling onto the pitch to try to avoid the game being able to re-start with him already off the pitch. It wasn't exactly subtle (even if it's another one that doesn't always result in a booking). But Pickford knew exactly what he was doing. If it wasn't for arguably the worst VAR non-red card decision ever (absolutely everyone knows Tarkowski should have been sent off, and when even the likes of Nevlille and Duncan Ferguson are saying it's a red, you know it's a red) I think there would be more conversation about what Pickford did any why that wasn't even looked at by VAR. If you run up to a player and kick them after the whistle has gone, it's still a red, just as if you run up to them and punch them or headbutt them after the whistle has gone.

For me, Diaz is even more of an enigma than Darwin. Darwin doesn't have the football brain or temperament. Diaz is super skillful (think it was on one of those LFC vids that Jones and Grave both picked him as the most skillful player at the club) has a football brain, never stops running, but is too often shockingly lacking in end product.

Alas, ChatGPT knows not of Fyds
-
I do feel that Trent and Fyds will forever be intertwined because of this thread. I just stumbled upon this gem - a Facebook post about a missing guitar from the Beatle's White Album, which includes: "A friend of George’s, Jan Gorski-Mescir, reported that the band left the Bartell Fretless at the Abbey Road locker for several months, until, stuck for the right guitar sound while recording some tracks on the White Album, they finally decided to use the Bartell. "During Happiness Is A Warm Gun, neither John nor George were very happy with the bend notes on the 'I need a fix' section, said Gorski-Mescir." “That's when they remembered the fretless in the cupboard. Both John and George played played several versions of the very bendy guitar line on the fretless, with compression and a Vox distortion pedal." The post is from just a couple weeks ago. I don't think he's dead. And or we're living in a simulation.

If Pickford had been just standing there and kicked Nunez, it would have been a red card (regardless of fact that the whistle had gone), but because he ran up to him and kicked him, while pretending to try to get the ball meant it was ok. Was similar to the VVD one in terms of lack of control
-
He knew he had a free hit because the ref had blown the whistle, and he took it. Does that mean if he'd punched Nunez he would have got away with that too? Kicking ok, punching not? Probably Lee Dixon. At HT, Robbie Mustoe was the only sensible one, saying of course it was 100% a red card. Tim Howard tried to defend it in a way that obviously made no sense.
