he CAN be our most dangerous player, but he will not be a complete player until he learns how to cross a ball to a fellow player instead of just hitting and hoping the ball in the general area. he gets 'burned at the stake' because we all know he has the ability to do so much better, but seems incapable of producing the end result. having said all that, there were a few others out there who did not do themselves any favors today.
-
GRANTED, BUT WHERE WILL HE BE ON THE PODIUM?
-
maybe not skin him wevery time, but he shud certainly have got the better of him more often than he did. Charlton did not even double mark Cisse despite the fact the ball was getting to him so often.
-
Reina - 7 Kromkamp - 8 Carragher - 7 Hyypia - 7 Traore - 6 Kewell - 7 Hamman - 5 Gerrard - 7 Cisse - 5 Fowler -6 Crouch 6 Riise - 6 Alonso -7
-
and that is our biggest problem right now. Cisse always looks the most likely player to do something, but when he gets the ball out wide you can almost always say that the move is over. Kewell was doing well on the left but never saw enough of the ball as it went wide right so often. Crouch was marked out of the game by someone a foot shorter than him and never looked in the game. His header from point blank range was woeful.
-
you could say that he does a large part of his job well. he gets the ball, goes past a defender and then .... the end result is invariably poor. he has the pace, he has the skill, he does not have the sense to put in the final and crucial ball.
-
he gets criticised because for much of the game he was rubbish. he is playing against an inexperienced full back and still cannot get past him often enough. when he did , his crosses were either too short and cleared or to nobody in particular. he still does not take a look before crossing the ball to see where the Red shirts are in the box. Unlucky not to score? he hit both straight at the keeper just as Crouch did with his header. i thought Fowler was going to have a good game today as he started great but faded. He showed flashes of the old Fowler, but some of his ball control and passing was off in the 2nd half.
-
agreed, he looked sound in defence and was happy to move forward with the ball and support the forwards. added to that he got no help from Cisse when their left back went forward.
-
it was offside, Cisse was a mile offside. that display was poor for a team that wants to finish 2nd in the league. how many chances do we need before we put one away? how many times do our forwards make the wrong choice , or control the ball poorly or fail to look up before passing or crossing. Cisse was useless over the 90 minutes as a whole, he had a few bright moments, but most of his crosses were poor, cut out or failed to stay in play. He disappeared when kewell went to the right, as did Fowler for large parts of the game. The defence looked as good as usual, Kromkamp had a good game. Playing Hamman from the start was a mistake as he is just too slow in his delivery, thinking and passing. He does not give the ball away, but his passes are no more than 10 yds at best. Benfica will watch this and feel comfortable knowing that we are still pretty toothless up front and they will shut up shop like Charlton.

garcia is probably still not match fit, I expect he will start on Wednesday though.

The Liverpool starting eleven for this evening's Premiership clash with Charlton shows five changes, with Robbie Fowler and Jamie Carragher among the players recalled. Carragher and Fowler are joined by Djimi Traore, Dietmar Hamann and Djibril Cisse. Steve Finnan, Xabi Alonso, John Arne Riise and Fernando Morientes drop to the bench, while there is no place in the matchday squad for Daniel Agger. Cisse is expected to line up on the right of midfield, with Kromkamp starting at right-back. Team in full: Reina, Kromkamp, Traore, Hyypia, Carragher, Hamann, Gerrard, Kewell, Cisse, Fowler, Crouch. Subs - Dudek, Finnan, Alonso, Riise, Morientes. from the awful offal site

Someone has to get a grip of the is club. The way they approach the game is loathsome, they keep the otherteam waiting at the start of the 2nd half, they dispute every free kick, for and against them. Their reaction to the red card was unbelieveable, even when Halsey told all of them it was for a 2 footed challenge. Mourinho should have been booked or sent off for his actions after the red card, but nothing will happen as they have become bigger than the rest of the league. For once, David Pleat talked some sense, he ripped into Maureen and the Chav players for their actions. Drogba's reaction to kicking another players legs was a joke, but Halsey did well to deal with it correctly. After all the fuss , Maureen went and hid behind Clarke and had him scream the obscenities for him. The whole Chelsea club is a disgrace, they have no class, no honor and almost certainly after today, no respect from other clubs. I hope Barcelona wipe the floor with them next week and Maureen throws his toys out of the pram again.

van basten, rikjaard and gullit. what a group they were. it's a pity the Dutch did not have enough other players to get the most of the talent those 3 players had.

well that was a very poor first half by the England team. Bridge was recalled by Mourinho to Chavski so he could play at Barca, I don't think so. Can I just say that the best thing about the first half was the cool ad boards around the pitch. I bet they don't stay and we go back to advertising Charlie's Chippy and Taskers. Did I mention that the USA national team won on the road against Poland?

i really wish that we could give give up on this "playing for your country is evil, and it's all a conspiracy against Liverpool" cr@p. Gerrard has made it clear that he wants to play for his country and will do so unless he is injured and unable to play. If he was genuinely hurt the club would refuse to let him play in the game and would just allow him to be with the squad. Any attempt by the club to put restrictions on his playing for England would put them at loggerheads with the player, a no win situation for both parties. If other players, and their clubs, are not playing by the rules, we should let the FA deal with those matters. Playing for their country obviously means alot to these players and the risk of injury is one we will all have to just put up with.
