I don't think you quite understand. It's not that we don't want these players. It's not even that we couldn't afford these players. It's just that both of those players wouldn't join Liverpool this summer. 1) We have to prove we're not a flash in the pan, we need consistent Champions League finishes (like Arsenal, like Chelsea, like City) 2) We don't pay ridiculous wages, even if we're minted we won't 3) They're at a top European club already We can sign the level below them. As we have been doing.

Kelly, Agger, Lucas AND Allen? We'd end up with a smaller squad than we started with. Suarez, Aspas, Alberto, Cissokho and Moses have already gone. That'd be 9 players out of a paper-thin squad. But moreover a squad that's just come 2nd. Plus the loanees will probably go back out (Wisdom, Ilori, Suso, Borini, Reina, Robinson, Coates). We want to add to the squad. Lets not mistake poor form for poor player. Agger, Lucas and Allen are all good footballers. Arguably all three have been great footballers at one time in the last few years too. He wouldn't come to us I wouldn't have thought.

So, do we need a "big name" then? A Suarez replacement in terms of excitement and 'fear-factor'? Is replacing him with one or two Remy-types sufficient? It's a tough one to debate this, as most of the ones clamouring for a "marquee" signing on social media and suchlike are unbearable whoppers. We've tried and failed with Sanchez, does the success of our summer business fall on whether we can find someone else to fill that void? I'm not sure myself. That's why I need your help.

Fine with that. I just don't think players like Lucas, Agger, Allen(!), Enrique... even Johnson... are as bad as is being made out. They're all good players. Some haven't shown it lately - fine. But we need a squad.

That's why the suggestion to get rid of so many is worrying me.
