  1. Agree, although I think that whilst Alonso was probably first choice for them, he wasn't miles clear of Amorim.
  2. Agree with this. With this as well.
  3. From the outset I thought Amorim was a very worthy option, but Alonso was always the number one option for me mainly because of his record as a player (and not just for us). We have some very strong characters in our squad, and a new manager coming in must command immediate respect. Whilst Amorim can rightly point to his record as manager, Alonso can also point to his highly impressive record as a player as well, and that for me was the deciding factor above all else.
  4. Excellent news. The best appointment FSG could have made post Klopp. Hopefully Hughes and Alonso next.
  5. I think they are trying to sort out the structure and new appointments within that structure before sorting out the manager. In an ideal world that would make sense: they reach out to Alonso, tell him you are our number one option, sit back and concentrate on winning the title in Germany whilst we sort out our structure, then we sit together. In the real world, however, Bayern and Tuchel have decided to divorce in the summer, and Alonso is now their number one option.
  6. I think so too. It's either Elliott or Szoboszlai, and Szoboszlai isn't fully match fit yet. Elliott by the way fully deserving a start.
  7. The Independent reporting that Barcelona have appraoched Amorim as their first choice to replace Xavi. Hopefully FSG have Alonso done and dusted as the list of potential alternatives is about to get shorter.
  8. I hate looking at and predicting upcoming fixtures. I know the big clubs are expected to beat the dross, but it isn't always that straightforward. There are many other parameters to take into account such as injuries to key players, fatigue due to high intensity of games and teams fighting to avoid relegation, all of which almost contributed to us dropping points against Forest, one of the weakest teams in the league.
  9. Looking at form over the last five games, we have won 4 and lost 1, City have won 4 and drawn 1, Arsenal have won all 5 and Villa have won 4 and lost 1. That is pretty relentless, and whoever win it will have to be pretty much perfect. (For the record I don't think Villa have a chance, just that they are having a great season).
  10. He is really not up to the job. This can't be true. Granted Chelsea is a cesspit of a club, but surely Potter needs to prove himself at another mid level club before taking charge of a club the size of Man United.
  11. Quite a few articles lately on who should be the next Liverpool manager if it is not Alonso. Hopefully it is not originating from within the club.

    Welcome VvD

Rice is currently the media darling and odds on favourite.
  13. Tsimikas and Adrian can play the whole game. Nunez, Szoboszlai and Gakpo a half each maximum. Salah 20-30 minutes to put some minutes into his legs. The rest should be kids. Is there anyone apart from Virgil, Konate and Gomez who can play alongside Quansah?
  14. Seeing this thread bumped up made me hope for a couple of seconds that there are some positives news regarding his injury ...
  15. I agree that they shouldn't be risked if they are not 100% fit. It is the lack of options off the bench which is a big worry. Chelsea will be really up for it because it is their best chance of silverware this season, and moreso because of the game in Anfield. Hopfully our players will be able to continue where they left off again Luton.
  16. That could be very useful for us. Arsenal, though, have the small matter of needing to win at home against Porto to go through.
  17. Again, you mean.
  18. Gutting. Jota out for the season is devastating for him and the team, and will hurt us badly.
  19. Just checked and City still to play Arsenal at home. The outcome there could be massive for us.
  20. I'm uncharacteristically quite relaxed about all this. I'd be very surprised if it's not Alonso.
  21. Me too. I'd be stunned if Xabi is not already pretty done and dusted.
  22. He would propbably be my second choice, with Alonso first.
  23. That is how I'd go if Szoboszlai is indeed out.
  24. Fully agreed. At one point I expected him to be no more than a squad option for us, but am very happy that he has proven me wrong. Brilliant player, one of the first names on the team sheet at the moment.
  25. He was excellent yesterday. Took a little time settling in, the suspension after the red card didn't help, but has really gone from strength to strength after his injury. We have gone from almost no midfield to having some brilliant options there, especially with Thiago and Endo imminently back.
