It's a shame that you comment before reading my entire post. I said that if Rafa doesn't want him that bad, then he should move on. For me, the fact that Rafa is still trying to tie this deal up indicates that the two clubs are not far apart, certainly not 4m apart as you indicate.

I agree. He's more like Garcia in the sense that he can play the wing, but will always drift inside. I would prefer us to get a proper winger, i.e. one who is happy to hug the touchline and get crosses in.

This Del Nido guy is a right a***. Its one thing getting the best deal for his club, its another agreeing a fee and then upping it.

Hope so too. I rate Pennant, but Rafa must have a very good reason for spending a large chunk of his budget on Alves when he knows he can have Pennant for much less. Rafa must really really rate him. So does Figaro by the way, and he has probably seen him play more times than any other member of this site.

Been trying in my mind to list the 5 best managers in European football, but cannot seem to be able to narrow it down to 5. The criterion in my opinion should be domestic as well as European success: Rafa Benitez Jose Mourinho Arsene Wenger Alex Ferguson Guus Hiddink Fabio Capello Ottmar Hitzfeld Marcello Lippi Frank Rijkaard ? knocking on the door. Note that four of that list currently work in the Premiership. Also note that of the nine, Wenger is the only man never to win the CL.

Not necessarily. If he's fit, he'll score. If he'll score, he'll play. He doesn't have much pace, but if we'll have Speedy and Alves on the wings, plus Stevie and (sometimes) Momo in midfield, then that should be less off a problem.

Please, no. Not consistent enough, and besides now that we have a pacy striker in Bellamy, we need someone to hold the line. Ashton would be nice, but I doubt WH will sell, unless its for silly money.

He is a good player, but is he a great one? I don't think he is worth 10m, but its Rafa's budget to spend as he sees fit. The thing I worry about is resale value. If he fails to settle then we will stand to lose a lot on him, especially since Dutch teams - his most likely destination in such a case - don't tend to spend a lot on players.

I was thinking something similar. Parry should now drop his offer by 2 mill, see how Del Nido likes the other side playing hardball.

I still think Aurelio will sign. With him and Riise, we are covered for LB, even should Warnock and Traore both move on. Not a priority.
