  1. Follow him on twitter @scottslater. He's a f***in gangster.
  2. I don't think that could be the case at all.
  3. I think we'd be in an utterly different position had we kept Meireles and allowed Adam to jog on. Apparantly, Meireles was miffed that he didn't get a pay rise that he was promised when he joined. if this is true, then it's another case of us being penny wise but pound foolish.
  4. You're starting to get at what I described at penny wise but pound foolish.
  5. But he's not putting in 20 million worth of crosses - or ten million more worth of crosses than a ten million pound player would have. Also, who is he putting them in to? Often, Downing and Carroll havent been on the pitch at the same time. The whole thing defies logic. BTW, Lyon were the closest football team to implementing moneyball
  6. I think Rafa got Rafa sacked - because he was worn out and occupied with politics against those who should not be names. Hodgson was always a patsy. The rest of your post is sound though. The press is probably the most powerful tool in the world. People still think Neil Armstrong landed on the moon for Christ sake. And McDonald's have convinced the world that what they sell qualifies as food and 'part of a healthy diet'. The facts is that if you repeat something often enough (conditioning), it becomes 'truth'. What we have seen in recent years is repetitive negative press about LFC, regardless of results (remember the treatment of Rafa?). We have to then question what the motive is and who benefits. Personally, I believe that Manchester United have been the sponsored, flagship team of Sky and the Premier League since 1991. We can then ask ourselves who owns Sky and what other media do they own. The answer is most of it. I also believe that this is not an anti-Liverpool agenda as such but more a protection of investment (Manchester United). The anti Liverpool coverage is a by product of that because, like it or not, Liverpool are the true kings of English football and in order to rewrite history, they have to sully the name of LFC. I think the negative coverage and treatent of LFC has intensified since Dalglish returned. Again, we have to ask what the motives are. Is he a threat to the status quo? Probably. As Ethan said above though, don;t read the crap.
  7. The only one of those who could be described as moneyball is Henderson.
  8. The official site has been Ghastly for the past few years. It's shifted from a supporter experience to 'post anything you think will get hits and hopefully we'll get more sales conversions'. The transfer rumours section is just idiotic (other than generating hits for sales).
  9. Certainly seems like it. In terms of first team signings, Liverpool couldn't be farther away from the official definition of 'Moneyball'. I think somebody told our leadership that it's an abbreviation for 'penny wise, pound foolish'.
  10. They are only as reputable as the editorial policy they have had forced upon them. Newspaper 'adverts' don;t just appear in boxes buddy. You can pay for anything in a paper - as can the FA
  11. Strange considering we spent Chelsea/Man City/Man Utd mone on lesser players. If we are spending 20-35 million, it's needs to be on top level players. And if we are buying potential, we need to spend less. The truth is, we have had a complete FUBAR of a transfe policy recently. Well, not completely given Suarez and Enrique. Otherwise, we have bought average to poor players and spent a shed load in the process.
  12. I thought carroll was good in helping the team. he won a lot of hoofed clearances. Too bad the midfield werent there to mop up second balls. I really fel for Carroll, he often gets abandoned and then gets blamed for it.
  13. Diarra sounds like a sensible move although I think he's still viewed as very important there. Madrid are lucky in that players will take a bit part role just to be able to say they played there. As a side note, there sure are a lot of varied interpretations of 'moneyball' on here.
  14. The guy's a moron. Often, he has two contradictory articles on one page. Often has conflicting articles on an issue on consecutive days. Leads me to believe that one half of him is journalist while the other half has to give in to an anti-Liverpool editorial policy. Then again, He might just be a prick.
  15. Downing was great on the wing of said teams.
  16. What?
  17. In fairness, Spurs are very well placed to tap into the Jewish business network. They could get themselves a really good deal indeed. And they'd be mad not to try at the minute as they look like a fantastic team.
  18. I cant recall that one but, even so, citing one off misses hardly helps. I remember seeing some shots on goal stats and they were very low. He's not getting the service andf thus is poorly practiced at finishing lately. Our midfield is getting away with murder because it's easier for folk to simply blame Carroll. We can't simply say, @Player x should play better' as there are too many variables in football such as mentality, fighting spirit, number of recent games, manager's selection and rotation, form of other players, the general attacking system etc. Of course it;'s up to Carroll to sort out his intrinsic variables such as mentality - otherwise he shouldn't be taking the top wage of a top player. Blaming him for service, style, lack of match practice etc is silly though.
  19. Watch clips of him, he always takes the same telegraphed shot. Pity Henderson's through ball of the season landed at his feet last night and not someone else's.
  20. Maybe this is part of our problem at the club. It flies in the face of Shankly's 'reach for the sky' philosophy. If we aimed for 1st place, we'd maybe finish 3rd or 4th.
  21. That's how much he will cost though. Villa paid something like 24 million for him and his reputation has grown rather than suffered since. By the time Villa add on 'Liverpool tax', it could be a scary figure. Assuming Lawro has something more solid than self promotion and the rumour is true. Transfer fees can be a murky area. Had we spent 35 million on Suarez, we'd probably still feel like we have had good value. In this case, if Bent does come and score a hatful, the fee won't matter that much. However, we also run the risk of (Carroll) history repeating itself. If he does come and the system doesn't suit him, as opposed to it being solely the player's fault, then we are pretty much f***ed in terms of football and finances. Our next striker will be a gamble no matter what. That then value's a 28 year old Bent at £35 million. If we keep Carroll, he could come good. It's not like he's been given great service and been missing sitters.
  22. If you seriously think that Suarez wasn't on the wind up, then you are very naive.
  23. The Etihad stadium affair is probably the biggest danger to football at the minute and nobody is saying boo about it. I guess the right people got their brown envelope. Football is gonna end up faker than WWE
