A good manager gets the best out of the players he's got. Brendan doesn't appear to be doing that and is trying to make them play in a fashion and formation to which they're not suited. Without Suarez we might not be able to compete for the title but, with the talent available in the squad we could and should be doing better

I don't think we're getting the best out of what Gerrard has left to offer by playing him so deep. I'd rather see him play half as many games in his best position (i.e. further forward) than see him so ineffective sitting in front of the defence every week.

Every time Mignolet had the ball, Chelsea pushed three men forward because they knew we were going to play the short ball out. As you say, they are clearly under instruction from the manager but even if we had the right personnel, it's not about the long ball or the short ball it's about the right ball as Bob Paisley used to say. We are so slow moving forward these days and even when the runs are being made, we're far too busy messing around at the back to make the most of them.

I think that this week has marked a definite change in the attitude of the crowd to the manager. The disquiet over the formation has been growning with every game. Playing one man up front has not worked all season and yet Brendan stubbornly persists with it. We do not have great ball playing centre backs and the keeper's no great shakes either and yet we continue to play the ball around at the back - either playing ourselves into trouble or finally hoofing the ball anyway. The midfield is a head-scratching mess at times. Although we gave a decent showing in Madrid, the line-up felt like a white flag was being flown which is something that we have never done at Liverpool. We have undoubtedly been missing Flanno and Sturridge but Brendan's doubters are growing and if he doesn't sort out the problems soon, he may find that the crowd are not alone in asking questions. If I was in FSG's shoes I would be.
