Could it be that Benitez prefers not too weigh a temperamental player down with any sort of burden. I'm sure rafa would prefer to talk targets to the player alone, the press just get a soundbite that suits.

He faked an inury to save face because he knew he was going to get subbed, and now this because he knows he won't be captain under the new but equally poor England manager. Terry is nailed on to be Captain, I'd hate for Gerrard to be England capt.

If you are willing to pay 'whatever' then surely there are better options out there? Carrick is a solid player, but he lacks the inspiration you need from your central midfielders imo. -

Thanks. Always come on and trawl the threads looking for a decent post, I'll persevere.... Your post implied we dodged a bullet if Cisse's injury scuppered the transfer, I disagree. I'd sooner have Defoe than Cisse ordinarily and definitely while Djibs can't even play!

Cisse will be out for a few months, then he will take time to get back to the level he was at... which wasn't good enough for the first team in RBs opinion.... right now, losing out on Defoe for next seasons challenge is definitely not like dodging a bullet.

Benitez should have moved for Defoe when he was on form, he could have paid double for him then to make the fans happy.

I really hope he gets the Newcastle job and thus the resources that he thinks he deserves. Even with more money and better players, i don't think he'll achieve better results that he has at Bolton, which will get him the sack!

We need to save our money until an actual right winger becomes available. Nunez should play right wing until May, he has a decent cross on him and he seems happy to stay wide and offer us width, something neither Malbranque or Garcia do.
