It's weird though, isn't it? A 6pt lead, potentially 9pts. 15 games to go and I am just as nervous as when it was us and City within a point of each other.
Massive, massive win and that is 2 more tricky away games out of the way and still 7pts ahead.
Now we have the chance to rest a few players against Lille and then make sure we beat Ipswich. Hopefully by then we can rest even more players against PSV before the Bournemouth game. Our Champs Lge early work is going to work in our favour here. Arsenal do not have that luxury next game at least.
Liverpool: Alisson, Van Dijk, Konate, Diaz, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Salah, Gakpo, Tsimikas, Gravenberch, Alexander-Arnold.
Subs: Kelleher, Endo, Nunez, Chiesa, Jones, Elliott, Robertson, Quansah, Bradley
I thought Danns would make the bench.
Excellent subs and tweaks by Slot. Their keeper was outstanding and when he didn't get the ball it hit a defender on or near the line. We could have and should have won it in the end but a draw is not the worst result possible against a team in their form and away.
Konate, Tsimi and Bradley back will help. I think the defence suffered when we had 3 out injured and only one defensive sub. Now is the time to rest/rotate a bit. Hopefully Gomez is not out for too long.
Yep, agree. I also think if we manage the squad well, others will suffer more in January and February. Arsenal have a tougher FA Cup draw, an equally tough Lge Cup draw and their Champs Lge position is not as assured. 2nd February is the next milestone to look for. 8 games in all comps by then.
Kelleher
Trent Quansah Virg Tsiki
Elliot Endo Szobo
Chiesa Jota Nunez
Bring on Konate, Jones and Bradley at some point. Chiesa will definitely need replacing too.
19 games gone. Plus 6 and a game in hand.
Arsenal or Forest can get a maximum of 94pts. So we need 49/57......assuming one of them is perfect (both can't as they play each other). We got 46/57 in this round and are well ahead of them, so they need a massive (understatement) improvement in form to get anywhere close to 90pts. Realistically I think 86-88pts will win it comfortably. Long way to go and the next 4 fixtures will see us play 3 tricky away games. However we're in a great position.
I think including yesterday's game in the poor first halves is harsh. We had a player sent off when 1-0 down (they should have probably had that man off the field before he scored for that tackle on Grav). I was actually fascinated by the management by Slot at that point. He tried a few permutations and then settled on one. From the 30th minute onwards there was really just one team on the front foot for the most part.
I also think that these "slow starts" are at times of concern, but they are a rarity in reality. I think the Newcastle one was the most worrisome of the lot. I also think that as risky as it may seem, there is a lot of energy management into how we approach the games under Slot. I think if we're in a good position after the Utd game on the 5th January, we'll have a very strong 2nd half of the season.
