Even if a new manager comes in this month, and i hope it's Kenny, he can't be expected to work miracles with our current first team and squad. We need to make a couple of quality attacking signings this month. We don't score enough goals or create enough chances...it's so depressing to watch. If we compare our squad to Man United's for example, they have 5 out and out strikers (Berbatov, Rooney, Chicarito, Owen and Bebe) - the first 3 are really good and would walk into our team. We've got 2 out and out strikers and only 1 is really good. I am sure the players feel the frustration of the fans. LFC and its fans need a lift and Grandpa Hodgson needs to be relieved of his post. Then we need to start the rebuilding of what was once a mighty club. New manager in, fresh impetus, new ideas and philosophy, 1 or 2 quality striker signings and just maybe we can still finish in the top 6 and get some honour back.this season.

The problem with Agger is the injuries. There's no denying he is a pure footballer and him and Aurelio starting at the back in the last game meant defensively we had more composure. My verdict on Agger is keep him for the rest of the season and start him as long as he is fully fit. If he gets another bad injury between now and May, then it's time to sell him to the highest bidder and replace him with another pure footballing defender, so we won't be weakened in that area.

Kinda sounds like the owners have sounded out Kenny about taking over the hot seat and he's said 'Yes, he;ll do it'. I guess now it's just wait and see...1 more bad result and Roy's out. Kenny will be put in temporary charge until the summer. It's just a matter of time now cos there's no way in hell...absolutely no way in hell Roy Hodgson will be Liverpool manager come the end of January 2011.

I have a funny feeling we'll win too

It's January 1st 2011 and I'm shocked that Roy Hodgson is still Liverpool manager. NESV/ John Henry please open your eyes....we all want Hodgson out. Good luck to Owen Coyle and Bolton...hope you beat us and fingers crossed that would be the final nail for Mr. Hodgson. Take Konwhatever with you on your way back to Fulham.

Personally in January transfer window I'd like to see Ashley Young and Luis Suarez signed. We need a No. 7 and No. 10 and can't be relying on Gerrard and Torres and Reina and to a certain extent Kuyt to save us all the time. If the new owners want to buy young and very talented players from now on, then I can't think of anyone better at the moment. I can see a dream partnership in Suarez-Torres and we have badly needed a proper wide player for like forever. There aren't too many around boys and girls. On another matter, we should call time on the Liverpool careers of Babel (not good enough), Agger (always injured) and Jovanovic (not good enough). I reserve judgment on Cole for now but he has been rubbish so far.

It really should be 12 from 12. Hope we never concede any more last minute goals to the opposition this season.

Some things that will make the rest of the season easier
DarthVader replied to growler's topic in Liverpool FC
Kuyt should be sold in the summer but I think Rafa should bring back Skrtel to partner Carra. Agger was brought back in because he is the better footballer but we keep conceding goals anyway. Stick Skrtel back there with Carra with Aurelio and Johnson completing the back four and LEAVE it at that. Let's see if Rafa listens to me on Saturday. I think he will. -
Name me a manager who doesn't blame everyone else but himself?
-
Well he did come out and say during the Alonso to RM rumors that if we did have any ambitions of winning the title this season, we must keep all out top players, did he not? He appears the confrontationalist type. He had a bust up with his mates at Espanyol before he arrived here.

After the kneejerking is over.. Is anyone really worried?
DarthVader replied to Andy @ Allerton 's topic in Liverpool FC
Too early to tell. If we lose another game before we play Chelsea next month I'd be convinced we won't win the title or even be in the title running for that matter. -
We have more than 1 striker. Ngog is no slouch but that Russian Fabio wanna be has and will never be good enough for us. And for god sakes play Babel upfront. What's the worse that could happen? He's got the one thing strikers in this league need - PACE.He may not have "game intelligence" but who cares as long as he is faster than the opposition.
-
I'd like to add 1 more thing. Stop playing Voronin. He doesn't have pace and pace is really important especially if you're the home team and have to break down the opposition. Ngog or Babel should be given more chances upfront.
-
I've said it before... drop Gerard back to central midfield and play either Riera or Babel from the start. We were out muscled in midfield 3 versus 2.Petrov, Rice Cooker and the other one were too much for Lucas and Masch. Lucas is really bad I think. His confidence drops so easily.. such a wuss. And what a stupid own goal. How dare people criticize Gerrard by the way. Where would we be without Gerrard or Torres or Carra or Reina. The problem is the other players.Buck up immediately or we will be fighting for 4th place. At this moment Chelsea, Arsenal, Man u , Man C all look stronger than us and have bigger squads.
-
Or maybe Riera had a bust up with Rafa after the Xabi sale.

I hope this first loss of the season in our very first game serves as a wake up call to the players. No doubt, Spurs away is always a tough game. I think last season they beat us and Chelsea, and drew with the Mancs and Arsenal at White Hart Lane. The free kick they scored from was just one of those things.Only way to stop a free kick is to not give it at all.The second goal they scored from can be put down to defensive lapse but it's always difficult to stop an opponent attacking the ball given our use of the zonal system. I thought we should have had at least another penalty from one of the 2 50/50s in the last 15 minutes of the game. The Voronin one was so so but the Ekoto one should have been a penalty. That being said I though Lucas was ineffective, Insua was a bit jittery, Voronin rubbish as usual and does not have the required pace to make an impact in our forward line and Babel looked like a lost boy as well. I think until Aqualani is fit and ready for action, Gerrard should be pushed back into central midfield because at least he can dictate things. I think while Riera is out injured, Benayoun should be occupying the left flank. I also think we need to bring in a clinical and clever striker - someone who can change a football game or score from nothing. If Real still want to get rid of Van der Vaart, we should go for him.He will be a better option to Voronin any day.Heck, even N'Gog should be ahead of Voronin.

Weren't you the one who said that your mummy saw David Villa in a hotel or something ?
-
Hey fellas, I'm just wondering...now with Xabi gone, who is going to come into our midfield if Mascherano gets a bad injury. I mean Alonso could play the Mascherano role well but from what I've seen of Aqualani, he's more of a offensive type of midfielder. And I don't really think either Spearing or Plessis can cut the mustard at this level. We wouldn't really have a good ball winner or defensive midfielder if Javier gets a long term injury and that could be a big problem.
-
Can someone provide more details on this Martinez fella like who he currently plays for and why would he be good enough to Liverpool? I personally believe Lucas will take Xabi's place in the engine room. Rafa needs to buy another central midfielder because neither Spearing or Plessis will make the step up at LFC. I hope we do not sign that Italian Aquilani. Even if he his talented, he will probably struggle to adapt to the more competitive Premier League.
-
If David Silva is in town, his signing could be wrapped up by this time next week, no?What do you guys think - 22m?
-
Ashley Young is the major signing that LFC should make in the next transfer window. The ease at which he goes past players amazes me at times. He would be an improvement on Babel and because of his quality and consistency when it comes to his performance and set piece delivery, I think he will be a 1st team player. I think his ability and quality can best complement that of Gerrard and Torres. His price tag would be absurd though.

I think we as fans have to be realistic on a few matters ... 1.) the reason why we have failed to win the title this season is because of the 10 draws we have had. 2 losses in 28 sounds brilliant but in the other 26 games we drew 10. Imagine if we had converted 6 of those draws into wins we would have an extra 12 points and still be the leaders. So, why so many 0-0s and why do we often fail to break down teams at home or score more than 1 or 2 goals ? To me it's not really down to missing chances as all the other top teams around us and in Europe also tend to miss chances but what we need is more offensive minded individuals in the last third of the pitch. 1 extra striker and 1 or maybe 2 extra attacking midfielders might make a world of difference. Rafa is a very clever manager and he would have already known this at the midway point of this season when we had already thrown stupid points away by drawing at home to Stoke, Fulham, West Ham, Hull, etc. I have seen a big difference in Rafa's strategy this season in that he has dropped his rotation policy and stuck to a more balanced squad. The difference between our squad and MU's squad is they have a more matured balanced group of players (ist team and squad) who have stayed together for a very long time. The likes of Ronaldo, Rooney, Ferdinand have been with them since 2003 and they have added a lot of quality since then. If we want to progress and reach their level, we have to do the same thing ... keep everyone together and add 2 important members in next season's squad. 2.) Money? Where are we going to get the money from to improve our current squad and which members of the squad should we sell without weakening it ? While everyone is crying out for Hick-Gillette to go and for new investors to come in, I believe it is better under the current global climate for this to happen - Rafa to sign a new long term contract and Hick-Gillette to make peace and stick together for another 2 or 3 years while everyone works together to lead Liverpool to honours. In 2 or 3 years time if this squad sticks together with a few really top class additions I reckon we would have won at least 1 if not 2 Premier League titles - ideally by the 2011/12 season. And then Hicks-Gillette can sell LFC if they want to the highest bidder, they leave with their heads held high and a decent profit I'm sure and we probably would have achieved stability on the pitch and would have made decent revenue off it as well. Now for this to happen Rafa needs to be backed with some money by the Americans this summer. We do not need to spend a lot as by selling players we don't require such as Dossena, Degen and Agger if he chooses to remain stubborn and asks to leave we would have another 10 - 15m in the kitty. Dossena's place will be taken by Insua at no cost at all and the 10 - 15 m we would have can be used to buy say a Zuiverloon from West Brom for the 2nd right back slot or a central defensive cover if Agger is sold. I'm sure another 8m can be gained by the sale of Babel but I'd rather we keep Babel or send him on loan as there's an obvious talent there waiting to explode but maybe Ryan needs to go somewhere else and get regular first team football, perform well and then tell Rafa that he should be picked. So then, as for the money to buy 2 new players I reckon why not Owen (free) and then we can find another 10m form the CL money to get a creative attacking midfielder to complement our squad ... someone ideally good enough to be a first team player and another match winner like Torres and Gerrard. I reckon we should try to go for a talent who is currently not starting regularly for some of the bigger team on the continent like a Hleb from Barca or Van der Waart from Real.

Even with full control of transfers and a blank chequebook....
DarthVader replied to Iver's topic in Liverpool FC
I must say that I concur. The 10 draws say it all. We lack match winners, creative game winning match winners in our team.. 2 is not enough. We need 2 more as MU have Rooney,Tevez, Ronaldo and Berbatov plus a well balanced and mature squad. -
I'm sure if Benitez had that extra money last July, David Villa would already be a Liverpool player by now but Valencia wanted 35. Then none of us would be talking about this Keane problem.Hopefully if we win something this season and if there's new investment there is still a possibility to try again for DV next summer.
-
This Lennon for Keane swap does not make sense to me.At the end Rafa will be getting rid of an average striker in return for an inconsistent right winger who may show glimpses of talent here and there but is probably no more effective than Pennant was for us.I don't think Benitez will do this. I think he will wait until the summer to see what Keane can produce.I think he will also try for Cazorla in the summer as our new right winger.
