    Welcome VvD

Jack Charlton played McGrath in midfield for Ireland a lot but I think nearly all his games for Villa was at CH. I don't recall him taking penalties either.
  2. Would be poetic justice if the footballing Gods decreed a reverse finish to 2014 where we ballsed it up in the couple games after beating City; their turn now to step on the banana skin!
  3. He is probably over there for some do connected with him being chosen as one of Time Magazine's people of the year?
  4. hahahah, good old Jason and the Argonauts; great comparison

  6. Haha, he looks like he should be in the cast of "Versailles"
  7. Just being a footie fan brings out one's bi-polar persona, and being a Liverpool fan adds an extra level of bi-polarism after waiting so damn long for the title. Hence plummets into a hell of angstiness after a draw [ a draw! we were losing to relegation fodder last year!] or giddy elation after a win, both reactions being probably excessive most of the time. I found the ManU 0-0 way more annoying than the Ev one. My teeth have been worn down by a bit more gnashing but I believe we'll be fighting this to the end and, like Inigo Montoya, shall prevail!
  8. I liked a quote I saw about him once in some tv footie column, "Jamie Redknapp is the opposite of Susan Boyle; he looks great but the minute he opens his mouth nothing interesting comes out"
  9. In fairness McManaman was a cracking player for us back in the day even though he is an annoying pundit. But why do TV channels always go for dullards like Shearer or knobheads who they seem to think were "characters" like Robbie Savage (can only be a matter of time before Joey Barton is on a couch holding forth). Loads of the ex-pro footy pundits currently on telly offer no greater level of insight than you'd get from a boozed up Joe Bloggs at the end of your local bar counter and, even among footballers, it should be possible to find ex players who have perceptive, interesting things to say on games.
  10. Manager wanted to sub him, he refused to go off, stand-off between them dragged out for 5/6 minutes before Sarri gave up

  12. Poor guy. Must be terrifying way to go, a plane crash. In car crashes I'd guess a lot of the time the impact happens so quickly you barely have time to process what is about to happen but in a plane going down you'd have all that consuming fear in the final minutes

  14. Hells bells I have just seen that soccer streams has been banned from reddit. Anyone got any other good links to access footie streams without loads of pop up ads etc? I was only half tempted to watch the Ev v City but am alarmed at prospect of Liverpool games now being harder to find online.

  17. "One game at a time sweet Jesus /That's all I'm asking of you / Just give us the strength /To play everyone we have to do/ Brighton is gone sweet Jesus/ And Palace are next up in line/ Lord help us today and show us the way/One game at a time"

  19. True but, in fairness, George Weah was once one of the best young players in Liberia, and Mo in Egypt etc etc
  20. I can see why we would put those clauses in but they could be a real burn for the receiving clubs. To take our own example, 50 million spent on Nabby, and he is currently as likely to start on the bench, shows that even high calibre players can take a while to find their feet with a new club for various reasons. It was a while before Ox was a regular starter too. Just cos one of our kids swans into whatever lower league club doesn't guarantee they are gonna set the place on fire, Ben Woodburn being a case in point, I am sure lots would have punted on him making a good showing. Who posted the comment a while back showing hardly any of our loaned youngsters came back to have a big career here??

  23. Not wishing to tempt fate but this team increasingly has the aura of champions. With the 2014 team we'd often blitz opponents with 4 or 5 goals but we needed to because we were just as often letting in 2 or 3. This season we are so mean at the back, still have a great attack and the ability to rotate in midfield without any drop off in quality. Awesomely happy days -here's hoping we can torpedo City on Thursday.
  24. Reminds me of the Shankly quote where Tommy Smith was complaining that his injured knee might prevent him from playing in next game and Shanks says "That's not your knee, that's Liverpool's knee"
