Possibly belongs in the genny but he does talk a good bit about his time with LFC. What a top, top, player and guy: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/sep/02/xabi-alonso-i-want-to-win-everything-there-is-to-win-with-bayern-munich-liverpool
Jayzuz, his account of Hodge's training sessions: “I completely lost my desire to come to work because his training sessions were really hard to get through. Not physically but mentally. It was the same and the same and the same. Day in and day out. “Often we had eight forwards playing against me and Martin Skrtel [apparently to let Fernando Torres score to regain his confidence]. Skrtel and I had a really hard training session as we were defending against eight with two but the eight players attacking were just faffing around. They had hardly run a kilometre and it was so uninspiring.”
What about the Bag of Spanners XI? Rushie and Kuyt up front, Tommy Smith and Phil Thompson in defence. Beardsley of course. Who else? Oops, sorry Hitman for further diverting the transfer thread away from its intended purpose
He's almost certainly responding to lame-brain lazy questions from the interviewer as well about LFC Euro finals, Jerzy, Bruce etc so he gets corraled into making those types of quotes
Flipping heck, I was just looking at Sky's La Liga Goal of the Season selection and the only one they have from Suarez is that tap-in when Messi passed to him from the penalty kick. Nuts.
There was that brilliant goal in a Spanish game last year where the players of one team were all so busy celebrating a goal at the corner flag they didn't notice it had been given offside and the other team galloped down field with only two or three defenders facing them and scored.
What??? That is totally nuts. Jeeziz, we pay players over a 100k a week but can't be arsed paying a scout a fraction of that to go watch a game in person?!
Balotelli is hardly a strong character, there is a big difference between someone who is a commanding presence on the pitch and someone who might be a big personality but doesn't go on and impose themselves when it matters.
The lack of on-field leadership has got me wondering whether Steven could have been kept on. I know he was often being overrun in midfield last year but Rodgers had talked about him being deployed in defence and yet he never actually went on to play him there. We've seen Lucas perform credibly as centre back this season, could Gerrard have done likewise? Or am I just being a sentimental doofus? He took a good penalty!
Very funny cartoon in The Guardian about Terry leaving Chelsea; http://www.theguardian.com/football/picture/2016/feb/01/david-squires-on-john-terry-leaving-chelsea
