I know I am, but it's no sillier than a net spend argument. We've had summers where our net spend was similar and we all knew it was a poor summer's business - this summer doesn't feel that way at all. Too early to judge obviously, but still. Spending within our means is exactly as it should be.

This is just nonsense really though isn't it? We've signed players that are going to strengthen the team in every position we needed strengthening, bar DM. Would you be happier if we'd only got £30 million for Sterling and paid £50 million for Benteke, so our net spend was £65 million?

I have an ITK who said Macca spent at least 2 hours on Sunday trying to decide where to put the comma in that first sentence. Controversial choice in the end, but I like his verve.

But Kovacic plays in the position where Coutinho/Firmino/Lallana all play right? Think he's an excessive signing. I do agree though when it comes to a DM... if one's available this summer that immediately improves us a ton, it'd be a great signing.

Kind of blunts Can's chance of progression if we signed one this summer I think. He's only going to improve by playing in matches, and we're probably gonna need to have some patience with him for a while.

It was all 4 midfielders being sucked into that rightback spot. All 4 of our midfielders within 5 yards of each other in that part of the field is terrible coaching/decision-making.

Well considering you were talking about the tail end of last season, I don't know why you're including Suarez in there. Better than the players from the tail end of last season, obviously.

Gomez looks very good indeed. Interesting seeing how tight he was to players in a lot of situations, allowing him to nip in and nick the ball quite often. Think that's Moreno's biggest weakness. Definitely a talent, really comfortable on the ball too.

Every single one of our 4 midfielders got drawn into the rightback corner around the ball. Hopefully coaching fixes that kind of nonsense.

The player he's most similar to is Costa, without the edge/snark. He's not quite that good yet, but he's also a couple of years younger so has improvement ahead of him hopefully. Their style of play is similar in so many ways, it's not that surprising that we've gone for him after missing out on Costa.
