I don’t really agree with these points.
Spending isn’t just like turning on a tap, you have to put the groundwork in first to get these players over the line. There are also a limited number of players who are good enough for us at this point and some of the better options look like they are/ were available this summer.
There is a cost to not acting when opportunity arises.
Our appeal could also drop a bit by next summer if we were to get a significant injury for instance and that allowed the chasing pack to catch up. Not saying we wouldn’t still be a massive draw but perhaps our advantage could be diminished in those circumstances.
We were also told that potential signings wanted to know how long Klopp would remain with us which was one of the reasons why he extended his contract. Unless that was solely for Minamino’s benefit that’s another year gone.
I’m also not sure how those who spend loads would suffer in this scenario. Chelsea seem to be after Chilwell, a centre back and a goalie to go with Werner, Havertz and Ziyech. Yes they’ll sell some players but that doesn’t strike me as the actions of a club concerned about FFP.
