  1. Here’s what she wrote in her piece earlier. “Sources in Germany indicate to The Independent that Werner’s salary will rocket in excess of £10m a year, with a fee of £12m going to his agency.” She also tweeted his salary has been trebled. But I’m guessing that includes the signing on fee too.
  2. People are discussing possible transfers and/ or a lack of transfers in a thread called ‘Transfer Window Speculation’ on a football forum. I really don’t see a problem with that.
  3. No. But I was for a little while a long time ago. I do work in communications these days so would know a bit about briefings etc.
  4. Sure and I’m pretty quick to cite the Ward example too. But when the club says they’re keeping their purse closed it has seemed to be accurate and that has been the consistent briefing in the last couple of months. The only thing that stopped it being regarded as the definitive position was that it wasn’t Joyce who wrote it (I think).
  5. I’d love you to be right. But usually when we claim frugality we seem to follow through on it. Last summer Klopp had a deal lined up to sign Guerreiro and we didn’t go through with it because we didn’t see the point in spending the money on left back cover. This seems like the same principle being applied. Reports over the last couple of days was that was what he’d agreed with us.
  6. The suggestion is that we didn’t want to spend the money on Werner given the financial uncertainty for next season. Really not sure that’s going to play if other clubs are making big moves. Mancs continue to be linked with Sancho and Havertz at this time - reckon they have Sancho sorted if they get Champions League football for next season. Also the fact that Werner’s clause was met, while still representing a good value fee for a striker, will probably help settle the market a bit. Maybe there won’t be as much discounting now as was previously expected.
  7. Mbappe has been talking up his love for PSG recently. All looks like the preamble to signing a new contract - probably with a specific release clause for next summer.
  8. If memory serves he’s a Southampton fan and has/ had strong contacts in that club.
  9. Well in the last couple of games he’s apparently been recovering from a calf injury
  10. Haven’t seen anyone arguing. Some football fans discussing the merits of different players yeah, but didn’t seem like arguing to me.
  11. Think Havertz is the better prospect, but Werner is really fast, gets goals and probably fits our current system better. If we had an open pick though, I’d rather Sancho over either of them.
  12. Havertz was brilliant last season but was quite hit and miss in the first half of the Bundesliga this season. Been excellent since the second half started and has 4 goals in 2 games now since the restart. He’s been playing as the furthest forward with Volland out in those games. More often this season though he’s played as a second striker or wide forward. From what I’ve seen he seems more effective through the middle but I’m not sure he’s enough of a worker to play in midfield in this Liverpool team - which would only leave the Bobby role really and I can’t see that happening. Probably immaterial anyway. It’s been well briefed he wants Bayern and on our side it’s been made clear we think he’s too expensive.
  13. Pretty sure the loan for Icardi included the option to buy at about £60m/ €65m anyway, IIRC. So depending on how the add on are structured it’s not a massive shift - probably only a negotiating opening gambit anyway.
  14. Fair. There was an argument for playing Bellamy, but I’d have had him in as second striker with Gerrard wide right then.
  15. He was a signing that the Irish reds on here were at best, lukewarm about, as IIRC, most didn’t see how he’d fit in. One point I’ve not seen mentioned in this thread is that he was incredibly lazy, extremely selective about what runs he would make, who he’d close down etc. I don’t think he would have gotten many games under Klopp like. Keane was also meant to have been second choice that summer. When you consider the top target was Tevez, I’m not really sure what Rafa was thinking in terms of those two being alternates. Tevez would have been a fantastic foil/ alternative for Torres and in those days was quite the workhorse too. Plenty of ball, didn’t do much with it. I still reckon our ‘normal’ team at the time wins that game pretty comfortably. We were a lot stronger just lacked a focal point.
  16. Malouda was definitely that player. He was also a player Rafa seemingly had lined up only Hicks and Gillette didn’t get the finger out... leading to an outburst after a night of wandering the streets of Athens. Although the bigger question he should have reflected in that night was probably ‘Pennant ahead of Crouch... what was I thinking?’
  17. Do people really think there’s anything in this Koulibaly talk? He will be 29 next month, his pre Covid fee was being floated at £90m and he normally plays as left centre back... a position where we already have a rather good option. Would be quite a shift in approach of some magnitude from Klopp, Edwards and FSG to even consider a transfer like that. I presume this is just the usual agent nonsense to flush out other buyers/ improved contract. See also Pepe last summer.
  18. Yep. Was there some suggestion, after they posted their record losses, that they acknowledged they’d have to make sales this summer?
  19. Maddock claiming we’re “virtually certain” to do no transfer spending this summer and that while we had been lining up moves for ‘long term targets’ Werner and Aouar, those moves are off. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-miss-out-timo-werner-21960456
