and that's where the £10m from Crouch could come in, or the £5m for Carson, £1.5m Guthrie, £1m Itjande, £5m Pennant, etc We can definitly get the money assuming we sell these players and just as importantly assuming that we really do have £20m net to spend.

Even if it ends up Alonso £13m, Crouch £10m, Carson £6m, Riise £4m, Pennant £5m (which I think is low - compared to say Richardson...) we still get £38m. I think we'll add 10-15m on top (which is piss poor but that's another story) so we have a total budget of approx £50m+ Dossena £8.5m Barry £15m leaves £25-£32m ideally for 2 key players and some kids - so who do you go after for £30m? Silva and Huntelaar? I think Rafa's got 2 budgets and is looking for a 3rd. 1st is based on minor net spend from the club and poor sales out - hence Milner, etc being linked 2nd is based on minor input from the club ie £10-15m plus major sales (Alonso & Crouch) as outlined above. This will see Barry, Dossena, Riera etc as key targets 3rd is the one he and Gerrard are petitioning publicly for at the moment and it's for major funds from the club and the subsequent freedom to sell as he wants (relatively) rather than the necessity it seems to be at the moment. Who knows what his targets would be I think we'll end up with option 2 unless the club is sold in record time but that we shouldn't be disheartened as it still allows for 1 £20m+ player even if we only break even over the summer in terms of expenditure.

Has anyone mentioned Henry as Elisha's player - amazing CV - possibly at the wrong end of their career (I'd take him in a heartbeat mind you)?

I'd like to think in my footie fantasies that maybe we could get Henry as the perfect forward either in a 442 or 4231 up front or wide and would be happy to have the occasional "rest" via Babel and Kuyt. Feck me did anyone mention him as an answer to the Elisha mystery player? I'm posting it there right now to claim the glory...

I take your point but last I heard VDV had absolutely proved himself in Germany and you should see him moving on this year to Italy or Spain.

I don't agree - I think he's as good a talent as Ferdinand was at a similar stage in his development (I thought he was overated at the time)

This is where DIC would help - I'd love to see us sign Richards, he can play as right back for the next couple of years - or permanently - with the option of switching into the centre. Young, very pacey, strong, good technique - he's exactly the type of player that Fergie likes buying for all the right reasons - pay £20m for a player who you'll get 10 yrs+ out of and with the appropriate quality. I want him 100% but it ain't gonna happen.
