Something's changed for me. FSG are just so intent on turning a profit that the squad will never be there. It's always sell and replace and hope. This is just not good enough for challenging for silverware. I fully expect a 'sell to buy' message for the summer as well. The profits of this window are realised.

This is really disheartening. One step forward two steps back. We went from having options and depth to having none.

We have sold to Barca, Man City and Real (in the past) - we don't usually sell to our direct rivals, and you could argue that these clubs are on a different level to us right now. I'd say you could argue that following FSG, LFC were saved from administration, and have spent 7 years rebuilding. We are seen to be on the ascendency and are in the race for second this year. Have made the knock out of the Champs League and have one of the best managers in football. Coutinho wanted to leave for a bigger club. Barca are a bigger club on the world stage than LFC, but they are one of the few.

This hasn't changed though. But one would hope VVD improves a defence with Lovren in it. So we should concede fewer goals hopefully. Are we though in numbers? We didn't have Lallana, and Oxlaide-Chamberlain is now getting regular starts. Our attacking midfield options are Lallana, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Can, Milner and Wijnaldum. If we say Coutinho is more of a forward, would not an attacking replacement, say a Mahrez be good enough to take us to the end of the year? I think the metric is what is the number of goals scored in games with Coutinho and games without this season. The question is if there is a gap there can we bring in someone to add goals and assists.

Honest question, does the forum think that the improvement of VVD in the defence offset with the loss in quality of Coutinho leaving improve us as a team? I would say it does.

Depends on the board, if I have 3 aces and we have 4 of a suit that means that it's one card to a flush and the other player re-raises my initial raise to a point that I would be committed to go all in, then yes, I would fold.

I really don't see how there was any other option. There was no way that Coutinho would play for us again. Keeping someone who didn't want to stay, providing a distraction from football isn't something that I think is a prudent course of action.

Think there have been reports that Klopp wanted the last word and a lot of control on transfers. Coutinho wouldn't have left if Klopp hadn't signed it off.
