I think we have a poor crop of u23s. And a promising bunch on u18s. But the odds are stacked against them making it but you only need a couple to break through to make a real impact on the team and indeed the finances.
We've played alot of our u18s in the u23s this season for various reasons, loans, injuries, curtis promoted to first team.
The most noticeable thing for me is the physical difference between u18 and u23 players. It's where players like balagizi look incredible at u18 level but often meet their physical match at u23 level. Billy k has looked really commanding at u18 level but made some mistakes at u23 level.
So it'll be a question of whether they keep developing at the same rate or not.
Michah richards looked a beast at u18 youth cup level but never really replicated it at premier league level. Sterling/owen/j.cole pint sized but tenacious. Some players physically fill out, or grow a few extra inches, gerrard and mctominany were quite small at youth level but had growth spurts.
Houllier was all down for getting u18 players to work on physique but not sure if klopp demands the same, he was quite dismissive when Joe gomez wanted to bulk up.
