This is quite an interesting topic sadly spoilt by the anti England brigade. When you read footballers autobiographies they all talk about when they were younger playing football morning, noon and night much as me and my friends did when we were younger. Is that happening anymore, I don't really see it. I used to visit my cousin in Bootle every other Saturday and I remember in the late 80s there were games of 15 a side on the local park arranged on the spare of the moment by local lads. That certainly isn't happening anymore. I remember Alan Hansen saying something similar when he returned to where he grew up. Scotland hasn’t produced any great players for years now were once they used to have loads in the English 1st division. It looks like we're going the same way. Some ex player said when Rooney came through that he is the last old style footballer; someone who has learnt his skills kicking a ball against a wall for hours on the streets. It looks like he might be right.
