The general standard of centre backs across Europe is a lot worse than 10 years ago. He was poor today clearly but it's nonsense that he's been a liability his entire time here.

Agree though the degree to which this is their fault is debatable. Certainly they carry some of the blame but it doesn't help (committee or not) that Rodgers couldn't pick a player.

Well we'll have to disagree on his ability as a defensive midfielder. I also think that type of stat is one of the worst in football: using that type of stat a few years ago could imply Liverpool were better without Steven Gerrard starting.

He was fantastic today. I think a good defensive midfielder - which he certainly has been - needs to read the game as well as anyone. He does that and it shows in his centre back play. He was terrific today. About as well as I can remember someone playing in that position playing for us in the past couple of years.
