Absolutely, no complaints here, just thought that talk of 2.5m must be way off the mark.
-
No matter how much I'd love it, I cant see any way on Earth that someone would pay 2.5M for Cheyrou. He was on very good money here, would never play for us again and was coming to the last year of his contract. Anyone wanting him would have known that they were doing us a favour taking him. More realistic fee would be 250K I'd reckon.

Fair enough. Must just be me ! Cant seem to get excited over signing Pennant one iota. He may be a good crosser etc, the thing is, Crouch for all his height is not actually that great at attacking balls in the box. For me, Crouch's strength is getting the ball played into his feet and laying off for a midfielder like Gerrard to race on to. Thing is, compared to Pennant, I would've thought that having Gerrard on the right would be far better option. Which would mean we'd be paying upto 5m (which in itself woulf be far too much) for 'backup'. To be honest, if we dont get Alves, I'd rather we hold on to our cash rather than spunk it on some second choice back up player. I could see it with Bellamy - he always impressed when watching him play for other teams - I dont think Pennant does. Ordinary.
-
Is right. Its only a message board ffs. If you dont believe him, ignore it.
-
As is Pennant in mine. Really cant see what all the fuss is about with this player, nothing more than 'half decent' in my opinion.
-
He has been atrocious hasnt he ? The guff about him being the "best crosser in the World " is well and truly finished I think - he never gets to the byline, so his crosses are being pumped in from 40-50 yards out - and thats all he offers. He'll never get dropped though, not while the FA needs money, imagine the uproar it would cause with sponsors !
-
Right ok, firstly, I dont know that to be the case, it was just a general debate - which I thought was the was the point of a forum like this. Yes it has occured to me actually, the same way it has occured to me that we may have to sell some players to bring in the players Rafa has targeted. Is that ok ?
-
But the point is, that as it stands we cannot afford to bring in the players that Rafa is after (Kuyt) without raising money through sales. In my opinion, Kewell could raise us a bit of cash without having too much impact on the squad/team. Out of the 'first 11' as they currently stand, I'd move Kewell on first. Surely his best days are behind him ?
-
The thing is with Kewell though, no matter how much he improved last season (which he did), he's still nowhere near the player he was. I think his pace has completely gone now and if Gonzalez is as good as people think, Harrys' is one expensive wage to have on the bench. And I dont get this "he can be used as a striker business either", as I've said, his pace as gone. I'm not slagging him off here, as I understand that it's his injuries that have taken their toll on him, I just think people get carried away him. If we can get money for him this summer, I'd move him on. Didnt Bascombe say after the Cisse injury that Rafa would now have to look at some of his other 'more saleable' assests ?

Good post.
-
Agree with that, I hadnt seen much of him myself and wondered what all the fuss was about, but he was impressive against Italy and outstanding aginst the Czechs - he hasnt played like that for Chelsea yet though. Another stroke of genius from the special one ?
-
Great post. Some of the great players of our past got up to all kinds (Terry Mac pissing on nurses, Case and Ray Kennedy were no shrinking violets etc etc etc). If Bellamy ends up here and plays well - that should be all that matters, and comparisons to the 'signing' of Bowyer are quite frankly, insulting.
-
I knew one of the squad at that time, he told us that for the next game, he asked Souness not to play him. He wasnt injured or anything, but his bottle had gone and he couldnt face it.
-
Gotta love Vladi. I dont think I've ever wanted a plyer to succeed as much as him and I liked the man even after it became apparent it was never going to really 'happen' for him here. I dont think he ever cheated anyone. I said after the final last year though, after all the struggles he had while he was here, he left the Club a true legend after Istanbul. YNWA

All his c**k ups do that.....

Er, excuse me. rafa is neither fat nor tubby, thank you very much. He is merely 'big boned', as it were.
-
LOL, excellent ! I'm sure she understood - and deep down, is proud of your language ! I trust you did the old 'just carry on as normal, she'll be too shocked to say anything' routine ?!

As top quality forwards are hard to obtain

Is right. Time to stop all this 'he may come good' business. We need to carry our momentum in catching Chelsea on, no room for passengers. I'd sell Morientes, as for whatever reason he just doesnt do it for us - and sell Cisse as a) we'll still get decent money for him this summer and b) he's crap. Only Fowler and Crouch to stay. -
Thats not right though, talks between Madrid and Sociedad had broken down completely earlier in the summer, Madrid then went for Vieira - who knocked them back. When we made our move, Madrid were out of the picture. I think he's commited to us now though.

I hope Ferguson stays at Everton for another couple of years. The reaction of their support when they seen him warming up on Saturday was brilliant. I was hoping they would get him on as soon as possible, as with being a man down, the one thing we needed them to do was bring someone on who cant actually run. He is now kept on their payroll specifically for derbies - when in fact, he's as ineffective in that game as in all the others. He's one of the reasons why they will never move on. Long may that continue.

Gerrard and Beattie to wear the number "08" tomorrow

Its good news that and about time, if its true. In Rugby League, both Widnes and St Helens have the Liverpool 08 logo on their kit, I think Tranmere do to. I've often wondered why we dont - seeing as we actually bear the name of the Capital of Culture 2008. -
Back to Chiles; When they were doing the Fulham-Chelsea rigmarole last week, he started on about diving and Chelsea in particular. He then said "I remember Joe Cole at Anfield earlier in the season, trying, disgracefully to get Steven Gerrard sent off by saying he elbowed him in the face". Every other commentator was too spineless to even mention it at the time. The BBC commentary is grim though. From Motson, wittering on to the studio 'in-jokes'. Pisses me off big time. Makes you realise how good Martin Tyler and Alan Parry are.
