What do we want from the club’s owners?
People’s unhappiness with FSG seems to be due to one or both of:
a) not enough investment in new playing staff; and/or
b) money-making moves that are bad for the game (super league, etc.).
What really needs to change to fix these two issues? Do we really need new owners or do we just need the club to be run in a way that frees up enough money for transfers to allow us to compete?
Apparently our revenue was just under 600 million quid (according to the Deloitte money league) and I’d imagine that should be enough to run a very successful club. With those sort of revenues, we should be able to solve the first issue without resorting to some of the actions associated with the second problem. But for us to be and remain competitive, it means that the other clubs need to operate under similar constraints.
In the long run, we can only be competitive if the league/Uefa are more vigilant in applying FFP rules.
Given the choice between a sugar daddy that buys us trophies or owners that run the club within its means, I’d choose the latter as it contributes to the health of the game.
I’d much prefer fan ownership and, failing that, I’d take owners who don’t invest their own cash for transfers, etc., but keep the club competitive while operating within its means.
I’m more pissed off with the Premier League and Uefa than I am with FSG.
