Wouldn’t the player get a huge signing-on fee if he moved with one year left? Maybe not as much to make the total cost equal to his value on signing, but enough to push it up to a decent percentage of it. If he signed new contract with Chelsea, he may be worth 80 million. If he doesn’t he may be worth 40 million to Chelsea and expect 20 million for himself, making him cost us 60 million. All this may be b******s though you would expect a decent agent to be making a case for that sort of figure.

I’m still hoping that our owners will be looking at some of the bids for United and think to themselves - hmm, a few marquee signings may be worthwhile after all.
