Yep, that's the crux of the problem right there. Not only that but I think we need more guile in that area which is surprising cinsidering we have Alonso and Gerrard there.

True, he hasn't been himself since the injury but people loathe to criticise Carra because he has been so consistent for us for a number of years. Sure, he's made mistakes, but who hasn't? Thankfully, he's kept his to a minimum. Mistakes you can forgive, lack of effort is a more worrying problem. Carra is rarely, if ever, guilty of this.

It obviously does make odds because it gives inept linesmen, like that idiot today, the opportunity to pull him up on it. It's unnecessary so why take the risk? The benefits aren't that great. As for the free kick, his positioning was poor. Got beaten at the side he was supposed to be guarding. Poor keeping no matter what spin people try to put on it.

Decent enough player but often frustrating. Many a time he'd get himself into good positions but would ruin it with his atrocious shooting. As for his co-commentating skills, does he ever stop moaning?

Yep, gutted Didi left. I've never rated Zenden at all. Put it this way, if we were playing an important match and one of our midfielders got injured, who would you prefer to bring on - Zenden or Didi?

Another ne'er do well. No thanks. So what other alternatives are there out there? Bent it seems is out of our price range, Defoe appears a no-go. Kuyt seems to be the one most talked about but from the limited amount I've seen of him I don't think he's the answer. He goal record is good in Holland and he certainly works hard, but his first touch and technique looks average.

Agree with most of that except that England were not in control when he took Owen off. They had started the second half very sluggish and the initiative had already been surrendered.
