I'd be fairly sure he subbed Gerrard for tactical reasons but didn't have the balls to admit it in fear of slighting him. Instead he chose a ridiculous excuse and made himself look silly.

Anyone who talks tactics as much as he does is overcompensating. I hope he can turn it around but I think it may be the beginning of the end for him.

At this stage I'd take a big plodder like Shawcross. He might not be the most cultured defender around but at least he can get his head to the ball and doesn't get bullied.

He's done alright so far. Until Sturridge returns, I'd like to see him make more runs in behind the backline instead of dropping deep to receive the ball.

There's always been a defensive issue in regards to Gerrard. It's why Rafa never trusted in a central midfield position.

Yep, he's been a great player for us but he's not suited to his current position - doesn't spot danger or track runners well enough. We should have invested in a top quality defensive midfielder in the summer but I don't think Rogers has the cojones to discommode Gerrard

Must be around that age, he seems to have been around a while. Probably just paper talk anyhow, can't see us bringing in two 30+ strikers I think Bony is ok but I'd hope for better
