He was outstanding against Southampton a couple of seasons back when we got beat 2-1 at Anfield. Really thought he would go on to establish himself in the first team squad after that.

This whole "director of football" thing is a cop out. What does an international team need with a director of football? In the club game, fair enough, he might take some pressure off the manager by dealing with transfers, contracts etc., but obviously that doesn't apply to an international side. The FAI had better make it very clear what roles Staunton and Robson have, or else the whole thing could descend into chaos.

If the mancs get Gravesen it might be time to get worried about them again. The one area they badly need strengthening is centre midfield. He will improve them considerably.
