I agree with that Sammya. I thought he was the best right back in the league when he was with Spurs. He has never recovered that form since his injury though, and he has piled on the weight. He was exposed time and again during the World Cup qualifiers and I see no reason to be grovelling for him to come back into the Irish squad.

Does anyone know what happened to him in Auxerre ? If this is the second time he has had problems with his eye it would make his recovery less likely.

The way the press were banging on about Lampard this morning you'd swear he was Maradona and Pele rolled into one. I thought he went missing for long periods of the game last night and, in the second half, I counted three or four terrible passes from him that put Chelsea in all sorts of difficulties. He is hugely overrated.

It was a bad goal to give away, especially with the ball coming in straight like that. It was something our defenders should have dealt with. These things happen though and hopefully we will t*** them in the second leg.

I would not be surprised if we go with one up front. Worked very well last season in the away games in Europe.
