The point seems to be that Wenger & Ferguson can coach a team of players, or more or less the same quality as ours, to play much better football than Rafa can. Is anyone really going to argue with that?
  2. I've been one of his biggest critics but my problem really is with Rafa not Sissoko. We all know what Sissoko brings to a team and we all know he cant pass to save his life. i'm disappointed with Rafa's insistence on breaking up opponents play when for 6 weeks now we havent been able to play a simple passing game, retaining the ball - they look like a load of strangers out there. Surely you concentrate on being able to play yourself before you go out to smash other teams up. The 'Win it back, give it away' game - dont understand it and dont like it. Mascherano has been disappointing, he's another spoiler essentially, but we have seem immense games from him for Argentina and we know what he's capable of. For me Sissoko has very real limitations, but its Rafa who picks him.
  3. Snorky is spot on I thought the Gerrard one was initially outside the box but there cant be too many complaints. they should have had 2 penalities. Why are some posters more or less saying its ok to have your arms wrapped around strikers when the ball is coming to them - in both cases they pulled them to the ground. amazingly not given Kuyt should have gone for that - he didnt i imagine because he's known as a clean, fair player - it was madness though. We got the points and I'm not complaining but there was plenty of reasons for them to be totally fed up - at least it made up for the 2 blatant fouls last year that led to 2 goals for them.
  4. Momo was an embarrassment yesterday. Having a bad game is one thing, but let's face it he cant pass or shoot which is a basic requirement of a professional footballer who spends every day passing and shooting.
  5. Sell him. Bring back Cisse CaRnAgE!!!!!!!!!

  12. Like most of his buddies he needs to be put down asap.
  13. This guy has been top class for River Plate and the Argentinian team for years. He IS top class. Even Boca juniors fans recognise it and that's saying something. 2 very close friends are Argies and can't speak highly enough of him. We have a bargain my friends who will soon be one of our recognised star players. Bet my Ballantines and coke on it!

I thought he played well yesterday - and I think he'll stay and be a great player!
  15. That puts that little myth to bed - haven't seen Eboue beaten yet. that was lightning!
  16. inadvertently the best thread for ages!
  17. At that time when Capello dropped Beckham and played a few games with the lesser known players I thought it was brave and him starting to do his own thing. A few dodgy results, (which you're bound to get with players who never play) a bit of booing, senior players saying Beckham was missed etc etc etc, Beckham was back, the supposed first team was picked again and things have hardly picked up. Beckham is just an example (he actually was playing well) but even Capello has struggled to take an axe to that team and sort it out. It appeals to everyone because its Real Madrid and because any manager with an ego is going to think they're the one to finally sort it out. No doubt Mourinho falls into that category too.
  18. Poor old Plymouth! I would have liked the pasty army to get through............they certainly deserved it.
  19. All this talk makes you realise how bloody brilliant Owen & Fowler were in their prime - a lot of these so called brilliant strikers arent goal scorers of the same class. Villa is as close as anyone in the spanish league which has been proved to be very different........We were very lucky not so long ago.......
  20. As I only watch spanish TV I find it incredible that this thread is taking place. He is continually referred to here as the complete striker, the magnificent Kuyt who gets everywhere holds up the play, links the play, defends, attacks, runs all day. As I've said before Gerrard, Carra & Kuyt are the favourites here DESPITE us having some very popular spanish players. Either everyone here is talking s**** or there are people on this thread talking s****. Personally I think he's excellent and next year will be in a class of his own in the premier league.
  21. Kuyt is a different class. He really is an excellent player, links play, holds the ball up well, incredible work rate - very complete footballer.
  22. i'd rather avoid Valencia, partly because Morientes is bound to knock 4 or 5 in at Anfield with the rule of non-scoring ex players.
  23. I an neutral of course but they were pretty dull in that 1-1 draw with Udinese the other day and if there is a lazier player than Ibrahimovic in the world I dont know who it is (except maybe Cisse) It was worth going to the San Siro for the game, but the players and the style of football is grim - the fans were fantastic behind the goal in the 'verde' section.
  24. Right Well - the clear opinion around all the bars, papers and TV is that Liverpool were the better team over the two legs, Benitez is a 'sabelotodo' (know it all - tactically) and that he knew how to play Barcelona - plan executed perfectly. Well coached side and the commentators were extremely complimentary about Carra, Gerrard and Kuyt - easily the players who most impress people in this country. The stadium and singing fans are already famous here - even more so by Reina, Alonso, Arbeloa (and Arteta) singing the praises of the city and the fans on spanish TV. Here is an example email received from A Catalan friend this morning "Hi Jimi, Congrats on the Liverpool win! They are extemely disciplined and Gerrard is fantastic! I was not able to travel to Anfield, but enjoyed the game inmensely over the TV.....May Liverpool continue to do well, I have gained great respect for their team, coaches, and legacy...quality inside & out! All the best, Juan" Says it all really.
