Why? Even Saturday Shearer was showing the wrong mentality, which is another reason he should have stayed on the telly. They think themselves a big club and Shearer said (paraphrasing) that it will be tough next season to get out of the championship as other clubs would see them as a big scalp and will raise their game. Alan, you have to accept that you are not a big club. Big clubs don't get relegated in this day and age - the days of the big clubs getting relegated ended with Denis Law's back heal. The structure at Newcastle is wrong from the bottom up and mortgaging the ground development of seasons of ticket sales left the club with no real revenue other than pies, shirt sales and sponsorship (another blunder). If this isn't accepted by the Geordie faithful and the club I can only see them dropping further. Shearer's not the right man for the job.
