Was just about to post along these lines. Someone wasted a vast amount of the clubs money last summer. Carroll I can understand, panic after Torres but £16m for Henderson and £20m for Downing is not good business. We clearly have an important summer of buisiness ahead and FSG feel that Damien isn't the man to lead us into it. I can't say I disagree to be honest. He did fleece Ajax though in his defence.

I like the way they do it in cricket. If the official isn't 100% certain a mistake has been made he leaves the call with the onfield official. IMO it would eliminate 90% of the wrong decisions. For example the Ashley Young sending off would have stood because it's not 100% clear, however Fulham would have got a penalty because it WAS 100% clear that Murphy was fouled. 1 challenge a half, if challenge is overruled it is gone, if you win you keep the challenge. Good point, so it is a clear cut one after all

At this point we went to Arsenal who idiotically only offered us £13m (Wenger must still be kicking himself). Villa wanted £18m so no deal happened. Had Rafa been told that he could have Barry and sell no-one, then nobody can be sure if Alonso would have gone. The following summer Rafa had a wantaway player who he had tried to offload so got the best price he could from Real Madrid. Had Rafa not tried to offload Alonso would the rift have been irreparable? In all honesty I believe Alonso didn't want to leave initially but RM's interest and the birth of his child made him consider a move back to Spain. I really don't think you can pin it on Rafa for 'hawking him round Europe' as some have put it.

And you seem to forget, or choose to ignore, that Rafa wanted Barry and was told that in order to buy Barry he had to sell. Had Rafa not been forced to sell to buy then we may have had both Barry and Alonso and been even stronger. It all comes back to the purse strings. When you are trying to work within unnatural constraints mistakes get made. When you can't rectify them by buying your way out of trouble these mistakes are compounded.

Obviously I'm not talking about a pay as you manage or end of the season deal here. Offer him a 3 year deal with the condition that he can spend every penny the club generates and not a penny more and he'd be in like a shot.

This is the first time I can ever type this and mean it. Rafa would crawl over broken glass to be manager of Liverpool Football Club. If he's offered it he will take it, we could be 20th in the table and needing 10 wins out of 10 games to avoid the drop and Rafa would come in and try and do it. He loves the club and the city to bits. If Kenny goes, and NESV offer it to him he will take it. Even if Chelsea or City approached him he would come here first. He loves us.
