He would make a fantastic squad player, like having another Bellamy. We need more quality players to fill the squad out. Obviously he isn't the focus of the summers business but him and Gylfi is a terrific start to the summer.
-
He averages a goal every 3.5 games and every 3 games at international level. For a guy playing in midfield that is outstanding. He is exactly the sort of player we were missing last season. He scored 17 league goals last season. Underwhelmed?????

Obviously England didn't get the memo as they did the same. John Terry with his 'Play me out of position and I'll play like a c**k' routine narrowly shaded by Evra's 'I'm taking the players out on strike' in terms of c*** behaviour. -

Yeah, the Dutch got their s*** together so somebody had to fulfil the role of 'group of individuals vastly underperforming and not playing for the team' John Terry was stand out in the role usually taken by Arjen Robben. This tournament the Dutch were back to what they do best so Capello could have just got on with it. -
He did, had to rewind that as I was only half listing doing other stuff. Chiles didn't quite know what to do with it. He's been an excellent pundit so far.

Phew, was worried that something relating to Wigan had occured without Whelan commentating on it. Not sure I could handle that.
-
That is a massive relief. He was f***ing outstanding in the Euros, so much better than any player we would be likely to replace him with.

Heard a great bit on radio 4 this morning. To paraphrase 'Given the fact that Hodgson only had a limited time with the players, being organised, disciplined, balanced and looking to counter attack was all we could expect. Yes, the games have been boring but we didn't expect to get out of a very tough group' Vintage Hodgson, he's managed expectation down to his level. The irony is in 2 years time we will play EXACTLY the same way and he will get torn apart for it. This is what he does, I can't beleive they didn't see it coming. I firmly expect us to bore our way past Italy and then to get completely outclassed by Germany in the semi and it will be all back slapping on turning a disaster into a credible performance. Capello's England would have battered all 3 teams in the group, outplayed Italy and then probably lost to the Germans on penalties. Torn on this, then there would have been no Javier Mascherano chant. The benefit of this act though is starting to outweight this game by game. -
Cheers for the info fella. I suspected this was highly likely when Rodgers announced that he would not sign any Swansea players for 12 months but that the Gylfi deal 'was up to the player' as he hadn't agreed terms yet even though the clubs had reached an agreement before Rodgers left. Looks a good player, could provide the creative hub from midfield that Charlie isn't giving us. If he is not at City by the end of January I will eat my hat.

I want to know what the 1hr build up for the game will contain when England get knocked out. At the moment they read out the teams, pay the two countries lip service with a little montage of one of their famous faces and some goals scored by their best player, then they move on to talking about England and interviews with the players/Roy. Are they just going to show the testcard for 20 mins when we are out.

I know Rooney is a c*** but if we lose to Ukraine and he has a s*** game then all the blame will be on him. Roy, if it concerns you so much, DON'T f***ING PICK HIM. Start the two lads who have done the job in the tournament so far, use Rooney from the bench. He really is a f***ing bell this fella. A smart bell though, uses people to his advantage. Really unpleasant. -
I didn't think the setup was the problem in the first game. Lack of finishing did them. Against Germany they were against a better side and the lineup against Portugal was shocking. Sneijder left wing, Huntelaar is a waste of a shirt. Only got themselves to blame, as per, should have walked that group

Ok, bad choice but my point is why are we signing him, instead of say, Van Gaal?
-
and WE hired Rafa from Valencia after he proved himself. We are gambling, big time on an unproven manager, apart from Roy Evans which was a mistaken attempt to return to something that had left the building, we've not done that since Shanks. Dalglish had Bob so that was very different.
-
I would have gone for Van Gaal or Rafa, why gamble on an unproven manager when you don't have to. Let someone else take that risk. Put it this way, using the logic we have used to select Rodgers we could well have appointed George Burley. I'll back him 100% but I'm not happy that the 'plan' has been binned, diluted, whatever and we are left with Dalglish out, Rodgers in.
-
Because he is one of the best managers in the game with a proven track record and is available. It's like saying should we go for Guardiola if he is interested. There is a reason why Rafa was not considered, consulted, or even spoken to. If it's not his relationship with Ayre what else is it? My concerns are based on this. If I had said to you in March that we would be replacing Dalglish with the manager of Swansea in the summer would you have said 'That seems like the best decision we could make in the summer'. I very much doubt it. Savic
-
I thought he was interested as he said this at the time he was being linked as SD 'My fingers are itching. I’m full of fire and want to work with players. 'I get dozens of offers but I’m waiting for the best one.' Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2149128/Louis-van-Gaal-linked-Liverpool-job.html#ixzz1xmNBVXrG Right, cards on the table, as the manager of Liverpool football club in charge of all team affairs, Rafa Benitez is a better option than Brendan Rodgers. He has the track record, previous success in the role and he helped set up a lot of the structure that is already in place. The only reason to not consider him is because you are changing the remit of the manager and introducing a more continental structure. They don't appear to have done this so I, for one, am very very disappointed.
-
True, but if we have ditched the DOF then why don't we have the best available manager for the job. No disrespect intended to the current Liverpool manager but IF Van Gaal was interested in the job and the DOF element then would it not have made sense when Rodgers insisted on no DOF to just hire LVG as manager instead? I can't believe two managers of the calibre of LVG and Rafa have been 'beaten' by Rodgers. It just does not make sense to me.
