It's fine for Citeh as they have loads of good defenders already so they have someone of Agger's quality to replace him if he gets injured. We don't so it makes no sense to keep Agger because when he is injured we have no one to fill his place. Instead we sell him and buy someone dead good for 1/2 the price. I suggest Ashley Williams.

Yes, if you accept that in that same summer Rafa was not given the funds he was promised after the sale of Alonso and after purchasing Johnson. Therefore the blame lies at Rafa's feet for purchasing the player but also at the board's feet for lying to Rafa about what funds he had. Can you accept that? FWIW I think the Aquilani transfer mirrors the Carroll one (in the initial stage). We made an offer Roma didn't want to refuse and we get a player who wasn't that keen on transferring in the first place. Rafa finds out that he's slightly more injured than he thought and then starts to question whether the player is up to it mentally. Aquilani decides he really doesn't want to be here and does everything to get a move back home but because he has been signed on riduclous money he understandably wants to protect his wages. This makes him very difficult to shift and rather than just biting the bullet and giving him a free transfer and coming to some arrangement on his wages in 2010 we commence a period of loaning him out to try and reduce his wage bill on the club. Finally someone with balls has, effectively, moved him on for free. Fiorentina agree to honour his wages for the length of his contract (with our help) but then slash them massively to bring him in line with the rest of the squad. They arrange this by signing him for x years at 1.7M and LFC foot the bill for two years (the remainder of his contract) via a transfer fee from Fiorentina. Thus Aquilani's wages are protected, Liverpool pay him nothing further and Fiorentina are not stuck with a player on massive wages. It's genius to be fair.

Agree with the first bit but totally disagree on the second. Aquilani and the head of a Gerrard Lucas midfield would be a better option than Adam there. However, Gerrard at the tip of a Lucas Allen midfield s***s all over it so if we are getting Allen I am happy for Aquilani to leave.

My fear with Agger is all the talk of 'one English club man' that we have read disappears when CL football and a genuine title challenge rear their ugly head. I'd hate him to go to City, it would be awful. At least with Torres you knew he was spent when he left. Agger is just getting better and better.

Any other player but Agger and I would agree, when fit he is the best I've seen live. (caveat not seen Jocky live). Stam was a monster but Agger's ability on the ball going forward, composure, awareness and just all round f***ing bossness is worth hanging on to because we wont be able to replace him.
