  1. True but neither Walcott or Johnson's star ever got close to where Barnes's was that night in Brazil. He'd plateaued but from being a football god to someone who wasn't consistently producing that level for England and therefore getting bananas chucked at him.
  2. Exactly, I was 16 when we signed Barnes, virtually all I knew about him was the goal he scored for England and the fact that people threw bananas at him. I'd seen a few great goals he'd scroed with jinking runs but was in no way placed to judge whether he was a 'highlights' player or not. Totally different nowadays, you see more of a player at Wolves/Birmingham in a season than you saw of Barnes in 6 years at Watford.
  3. Is this an amalgamation of the real person with his online persona?
  4. Now them is the kind of rumours I likes.
  5. That would make Walcott and Johnson rubbish comparisons then as both are at big clubs. Had Johnson spent 6 seasons at Boro being brilliant and THEN stagnated this might be a relevant point. I can't think of a good comparison because top quality players rarely stay at small clubs long enough to shine anymore.
  6. And herein lies the problem. When Thiago Silva cost £40m and Agger costs £27m, £10m wont get you Roger Johnson or Scott Dann. The only reason for selling Agger IMO is if he wont sign a reasonable contract. If he signs a new deal we should keep him whatever we get thrown at us. We aren't starting from a strong enough position to get rid of any quality players IMO.

  8. this doesn't happen enough for my liking.
  9. Does Agger strike you as a 'hold the club to ransom' player though? Either Agger is playing hardball or the club would be happy to sell him rather than give him a new long term contract. On the flip side though they just gave Suarez a massive payrise. I'm confused and worried. I don't like this one bit. The manager is saying too much at the moment, unless there is an agenda I am unaware of, why are we sticking our best players in the shop window. 'Every player has his price' - of course he does but Ferguson wouldn't mention that phrase when talking about Rooney. Wenger fought tooth and nail for Fabreagas and Van Persie. I don't like this it makes us look small time.
  10. He's a fool then, alright, not as high as Suarez but Agger should be right up there with the untouchables. Making this statement about Agger means either: Rodgers is a complete buffoon and we are entering Hodgson territory The board insist that every reasonable offer MUST be considered Agger is driving himself down the M62 as we speak because he is desperate to leave I think it's 2 and 3.
  11. Did you ever expect to hear a Liverpool manager say that?

  19. Is Addicted to Love about cocaine then?
  20. If this is his decision with no interference from the board then he is both.
  21. We have Joe Allen in midfield and Carra and Skrtel at the back. I'm sure it will be fine. Anyway, I'm sure we can get £25m for Lucas next summer and that will help the rebuilding process. We might be able to bring in Scott Sinclair AND Ashley Williams in for that money. What frightens me is that, I think he wants to go but we are not fighting to keep him. That REALLY frightens me.
  22. Of course we can, we have loads of good players that we can sell to generate some funds.
  23. It's been building though, the Mirror quotes last week, the agent's quotes, the no show of Agger, now these tweets. There is a lot of smoke, maybe there isn't a fire but I think that Agger wants to play in the Champions League as he knows as well as anyone what his injury record is like. The sad thing is Agger said he would never play for another English club. The sad thing being I believed it. with a fair wind and a bit of luck.
  24. That's football, players get injured, Agger is a risk but he is so much better than anything we have or are likely to get. Selling Agger is not the actions of a club that wants to win things.
  25. Carralegend, can I worry yet?
