IMO I think this is more to do with the fact that he doesn't want to pay £70K a week for a squad player and is trying to force the player out of the club. Likewise Cole and Downing. If we got shut of those 3 it would save us nearly a million a month. He wont get shut of Cole but I can see the other two taking a minor pay cut to play football somewhere else. I think we have to face the reality that budget constraints are now very much part of being Liverpool manager and that is one of the main reasons that Carroll is in a West Ham shirt.
