Just watched the you tube of him v England, he had Kyle Walker on toast and did him for pace, also did a great bit of show-boating but rather than admire his skill got on his bike for a return pass. Really really like the look of this lad.

Coutinho were not in evidence against Villa. Henderson was excellent as always but every one else went up several levels.

Veron to Man U, arguably that transfer made the first team worse. Suarez was cup tied in Europe, we needed to replace Torres or play Ngog in the Europa league. There was a massive need for us to buy a striker that day.

I think unfortunately one of Sterling or Coutinho is on the bench every game. A sort of 4-4-2 with Henderson and Coutinho wide but neither really sticking there. This doesn't really solve the Gerrard problem though.

Stakes are real high though. Get it right and you are in the CL with arguably the best out and out striker in world football, get it wrong ....... For me the problem is twofold. Firstly it's Sturridge, he's too good to leave out and that leads us to our second problem Gerrard. He's not mobile enough to play a 2 against a 3 and we don't have a Mascherano or a Sissoko to do two people's work for him. So what do you do? 3 at the back, Arsenal showed how to deconstruct it, 2 in the centre and a narrow midfield (Henderson right wing), better but relies on Johnson to do everything on the right side and you have to drop one of Sterling (who is in great form) or Coutinho. One answer - Sturridge is the best impact sub in premier league, he wont be happy with that though. Long term we need a Yaya Toure Fernandino type midfield pair. We don't get that with Gerrard. It's tough but that formation wont ever be the answer unless we are playing a side that is woeful in the middle of the park. He massively underestimated Villa and got punished.

Souness obviously as if you dropped Roy Keane into this side and we would probably win the league, Souness would boss every game. But as a curve ball, Big Ron would certainly help address our defensive problems.

It's just end product though, he's still turning people on a sixpence, still seeing the pass, still capable of disguising the pass. He's still f***ing great in my view, it's like Luis first season, Leo was banging on about him being lethal in Holland but there was no evidence on the pitch. As it turned out he was just trying too hard to do it all by himself. Coutinho is a kid who has lost his mojo, same as Sterling who looked like he was running through treacle a few months back, Coutinho just can't pass it at the moment. He'll be fine.

I think Suarez could well have some pissy little release clause circa £70m if we fail to get in the CL. It's a gamble, show massive faith in the player who has had two major indiscretions here already on top of several at Ajax and get rewarded by the 3rd best player in the world busting his balls to get you in the CL in a world cup year. I genuinely don't think Suarez wants to leave LFC, he just wants to win the biggest trophies he can, and to play for Real Madrid (who doesn't). I don't think we gave him a new contract for any financial reason (for the benefit of LFC), I think it was a 'Here you go Luis lad, we are backing you to the hilt, go out and prove that we aren't idiots'.

If Arsenal win tonight they are top, lose they are 4th and Everton would be 2pts off top in 5th. I'd take 4th now, mainly because we need it to have any chance of keeping Suarez.
