Disagree 100% Rafa Benitez wants Owen otherwise Owen wouldn't be coming here. Rafa isn't going to spend even £10m on a player he doesn't want. He went after Crouch in the manner he did because Redknapp held all the cards. He had no intention of selling the player and needed him for the campaign ahead (just look how So'ton are struggling sans Crouch). We had to prise him away. Owen is different because HE holds all the cards not Real Madrid. They don't want him and want to get shut, he doesn't want to ask for a move because he will lose his loyalty bonus etc. Thus it becomes a game of cat and mouse. We dont wont to get fleeced and Real don't want to be stuck with Owen. Michael has now shown his hand. He wants to stay at Real Madrid IF he's in the team otherwise he wants to come to us. As a last resort he will go on loan to Newcastle. Now the onus is on Perez. He has to negotiate a deal with us for the player. Rafa has played this perfectly. He desperately wants Owen as he sees what everyone else does. We have no one in this side who will guarantee 19 (for the benefit of the arachnid) goals a season. We need that player, Rafa knows that.
