Well this bit is rubbish, the league position and points reflect the fact that from February our focus was on winning the European Cup and trying to finish 4th. This is what the league points and points total reflected the fact that Pellegrino was starting games not Sami, the fact that Rafa's wafer thin squad was being stretched as he pulled out all the stops to win big ears. Using league and points totals as a barometer of performance IS rubbish when you have the shiniest of pots at the end of the year. Using league and points totals as a barometer of Kenny's performance in his last season is equally as poor. Those cup games don't win themselves particularly the semi finals and finals.
Rafa is a cut above any other manager we could get, I'm just trying to see whether you are happy with Brendan IF Rafa isn't on the table as an option or whether you think there are other people available that it would be worth getting in.
Everyone else that we could realistically get now. I have come to the conclusion that, excepting Rafa, Brendan is the best option for next season out of the managers that we could reasonably expect to get. We wont get a top top manager as we don't have CL so Rafa is the only manager in that bracket who would come here.
I think you do young Philippe a disservice there, that boy has plenty of magic in his boots and the twin threat of Luis and he feeding a pacy finisher like Daniel has me rather excited about the prospects next season.
He called them a small club again last week, I don't think he would be daft enough to go there, pragmatic, yes, but why leave a succesful small club with fans who hate you to go to an unsuccesful small club with fans hate you.
He's got 30pts from 17 games playing good football, Kenny got 33 and 34 from his first two lots of 19 games. For me, that is good enough to give the man another season, Hodgson excepted I'm not really a fan of sacking a manager at Xmas.
It's f***ing magic that we are talking about how teams are going to neutralise Coutinho when we have Luiz Suarez and Steven Gerrard on our books. Add in the new improved Sturridge and we are going to score a lot of goals next year.
f***ing hell, he's not 21 yet. That vision at that age, unbelievable. That's his trademark pass, dead weight in side the full back/centre back hole with the outside of his boot. I'd love to have the skill to do that once, not at will like he can.
He's proved his teams can play good football, if that happened then there would have been some extraordinary circumstances because playing as we have done since Xmas wont see us in the bottom 3.
Van Basten won the golden boot at 22 and had scored over 100 goals for Ajax by the time he was 24 so we probably wouldn't. Batter him for the daft stuff he actually said.
There is no evidence he does this though, being greedy when you are for your first professional hat-trick in a dead rubber is fine by me. His decision making is still a bit suspect but he has shown he has the pass in him as he did a Newcastle. It's just great having a proper pacy striker again, scares the f*** out of defences.
I think Benitez should still be manager, I also think that Kenny did not deserve to go, I therefore find it hard to get behind someone who is delivering (IMO) less than either. If I trusted FSG to appoint the right person I would want Rodgers gone tomorrow. I don't though, which makes things difficult.
