  5. Good news! If I was an opposition manager and somebody told me that Gerrard was playing in midfield against me, I'd be doing cartwheels. No, if/when Xabi goes, we find another centre midfielder somewhere and leave Stevie right where he is. Stevie has transformed from a player who was predominantly a match shaper to someone who is now predominantly a match winner. As it is, he is now probably the premier 2nd/support striker in the world (is that going too far?) - the qualities he has are close to impossible to match up against in that role, plus he is now a finisher of the highest note. I think it is to Rafa's immense credit, too, that he identifed that Stevie should play in this current role reasonably early on in his tenure - despite criticism from within the media, fans and probably Stevie himself.

  10. To be fair to the linesman, at the moment the ball was played Yossi was side-on to him so the linesman couldn't actually see him at all.
  11. Alonso - Masterclass! Kuyt - Fernando was hardly missed Mascherano - Gave them no time in midfield Good performances from practically everyone else, too!

  18. I honestly hope he is insane enough to think that they were the better side because, if he does, they will lose the title this season. Looking at their side, it is clear that (despite their run of clean sheets) their defence is a worry and only the fact that few teams actually try to pressure them has lead to them being mis-labeled as fantastic defensively. Of their defenders that have been hailed this year, Vidic's goals allow him leniency when assessing his defensive capabilities and he should have been sent off for the same offence against Newcastle a couple of weeks ago. Van Der Sar has his fair share of mistakes in him, too. I'm not sure that Evra is actually a defender. Everyone's expecting them to bounce back against Fulham, but if they don't - it could be the start of the meltdown. The post match comments of Rafa and Stevie were excellent and certainly put the pressure back on them, now we need some other teams to follow our lead. The thing that gives me hope is that we weren't particularly on song, either, yet they completely fell apart!

  22. Was this when he took the ball from the short corner and was protecting the ball? Bosingwa came in and stamped on his lower back and somehow the officials determined that Yossi was at fault and gave the free against him - it was bewildering! Great contribution from Yossi in the last few games - he does give us something different when he's on form.

    Lucas

I think he's a stupid footballer. There's players who are thick as 2 planks off the park, but are 'intelligent' footballers - i.e. no what to do and when to do it. Lucas just seems to almost always take the wrong option - and tonight most players would have just let Koumas run the ball out for a goal-kick.
