He's getting a bit of stick for his performance tonight, but it looked to me like Milner was pushed out wide for some reason (perhaps Rodgers was worried about the threat from their left back?) when he came on and Lallana dropped back into the middle. Anyway, I don't think Can had any real support in the middle of the park - Can was generally getting stuck in and getting a touch here and there but Lallana wasn't strong enough to pick up the pieces often enough. I think Rodgers over-read the game to the detriment of the team's balance, and once Bournemouth had that sniff in the 2nd half they weren't going to stop chasing.

Commentators got word that it was an ankle problem - no mention of how serious.

They sounded weird at the time, but in hindsight everybody close to it (he, his manager, the club) may have known that he had played his last game for us - or at least that it was likely. For what it's worth, I imagine it has always been his goal to get a move to Barcelona - basically because of his wife's family links there. It's probably hard for us to take as fans but, despite the fact that he signed a new deal and publicly pledged his future to Liverpool (if we made it into the Champions League), it didn't mean a hell of a lot when it became clear that Barcelona were prepared to trigger his release clause. His dream move was on - would he get another chance? Maybe - but you never know... Everybody involved probably new about this in advance of the World Cup. With what happened at the World Cup, everything that came after seemed like more of a case of "does this change anything?", with the parties involved - rather than the start of the conversation. Barcelona probably tried to drive the price down, etc. etc.

Although we're not that big a market, it's pretty obvious that Liverpool are one of (if not THE) biggest rating teams here in Australia - the broadcaster down here more or less had all of our games on the main channel (even when playing the lower teams).

True, but I still think he needs to impose himself a little more - not a criticism, as such (as he's obviously following Rodgers' instructions), but I think he has the ability to pressure the opposition a little more with the ball and at the moment he's letting them off a little lightly. Thought yesterday that his opponent knew that if he got goal-side then he could have a bit of a breather. He may not be a flair player, but he's stepping up nicely. He's got all the physical attributes to be a monster of a player and he seems to be maturing, too. Good signs!

On holiday here in Italy and just saw the sport paper they have here (Gazetto Dello Sporto, or whatever ) and Matri's also been linked with a move back to AC Milan for weeks now. Apparently, Matri's girlfriend lives in Milano, too. For what it's worth, my brother-in-law is a Milan fan and rates him as an option off the bench and is quite happy to get him back. So I'm guessing it's Juve trying to drive his price up a bit...
