Teams you miss from the top flight
Mr_Shane replied to stressederic 's topic in General Football Discussion
Waves of nostalgia overwhelm me.... Southampton becaue they kept on taking points from Man Utd Than there used to be Wimbledon with Dave Beasant, Dennis Wise, Vinnie Jones and all Luton and their plastic pitch. Leeds and Nottingham forest of course The two Sheffield clubs. Crystal palace with Ian wright and mark bright used to be a good side in the 80s as was norwich city. and did i imagine it or were brighton and hove albion once in the old first division? -
Indeed we have tried to give goals. We played virtually our second team against Portsmouth. We played like headless chickens here, and if that were still not enough, we even gave a man advantage for 30 minutes and yet the only way anyone could score against us is through penalties?
-
I am guessing he wants to keep them ready for Porto. I can't believe he would have not utilized them from them from the getgo otherwise.
-
Nice to see us play with swagger and confidence even without the likes of Gerrard, Alonso and Torres.
-
Torres is one of the most complete attackers I have ever seen. I don't know how to explain it, but here goes. He has all the qualities that a striker should have. He is good, but not excellent in any of them, and what makes him so difficult to play against is that he does not depend solely on just one of those qualities to come up with something, but a combination of one or more of those qualities. Even more, he seems to have the knack of knowing which of his abilities to use.... which quite literally means, you really never know what he is going to do next.

Good win which we might not have managed last season
Mr_Shane replied to baja the hut 's topic in Liverpool FC
Mind you they did beat spurs. So they are hardly pushovers. To have a good chance of winning the league, I feel that we need to at the very least be able to beat the bottom 10 teams home and away... thats 60 points already, then we have to at least take points of the other 9 teams (ie at least draw the other 18 games) thats 78 points. If we lose one of these games, then we have to make up for it by winning one of those 18 games. So Sunderland and villa away were games we had to win. The home draw against Chelsea was disappointing, but it it was hardly 2 points dropped in my book although the way we dropped the points was galling. But the optimist in me says Hey thats one difficult game out of the way, and we are still on target for the scenario that I described. Take the case of Man Utd for instance, Drawing to Wigan and losing to Man City has already put them at a disadvantage, because Wigan is a game that I feel that Champions have to win and Man City is a game that Champions should at least draw. They could still be Champions of course, but now they have to find a way to get those dropped points from somewhere else.... And the only wat they can do that is by at least winning 2 of those 18 games against the other top 9 sides. (17 now that they have played Man city) So in my book 3 points is 3 points is 3 points as someone said earlier. -
Definitely satisfied. All the other title contenders struggled at home against sides no better than Villa. whereas we have got one tricky fixture out of the way... and John Carew will be an absolute nightmare to play against.
-
I would like to think they are all being kept fresh for Toulose who showed they are certainly no pushovers.
-
It could even been a penalty in the last minute, but the ref had to go and blow for the final whistle.

General patterns I have observed from our games so far. The bad - we keep on going behind so often. In fact for 3 out of the 4 competitive games so far, we have gone conceded before the opposition. The good - We can come from behind. Despite going 1-0 down in those 3 games we, have yet to lose. A well rounded distribution of goals so far. 6 goals in 4 competitive games. 5 scorers already. Furthermore, Kuyt, Garcia and Gerrard who we can definitely expect goals from have yet to open their account. I even expect Aurelio to get a few from those free kicks. The ugly - not being able to keep clean sheets.

What concerns do you have for the season ahead?
