S.O.S - "BELONG" LFC Membership Scheme and Tickets for Corporates
Tyler replied to Spirit Of Shankly 's topic in Liverpool FC
In my view this argument sums up the whole "lets buy torres/football is no longer a working mans sport" dichotomy that many on here face absent a abramovich type owner the only way for liverpool fc to compete and win trophies is to be successful commercially a membership scheme is an obvious idea and should have been introduced years ago. Fan clubs are run by cliques. I'd prefer a shot at a ticket through this new system which is run objectively and centrally. When new stadium is built I'd like a chance for a season ticket and again if this new system weeds out people on list just to be on list then great. Its 29 pounds which is not a huge amount of money. Moral outrage is a little OTT in my book and is driven I suspect from the further confirmation that Liverpool FC is now a business and is run as one. -
13m plus finnan is 15m which is what we had offered i think would be happy with that all the talk of us being skint is a bit off the mark too given our spending on two central midfielders in the last six months assuming barry deal goes through bring in villa and barry and the two full backs and it would be a good summer wonder if carson will be sold. seems like he will.
-
seems we are planning for carson to go as well prefer if we sold him instead of allowing contract run down through loan spells could see arsenal/spurs being interested in him maybe man city?
-
neither do i really (not when it comes to targetting) but may mean we pay a bit more for a player than otherwise i think its interesting angle, more so for mid-table, lower table teams but taking likes of barry from villa, keane from spurs does serve to accentuate the gap with top 4

Interesting take on Keane and Barry transfers - is part of reason to take them to weaken your opposition. Niall Quinn made this point at a thing I was at. He was talking about Stephen Hunt and Reading and Sunderland being after him for 5m back in January. Said part of this was to weaken Reading when they were struggling with Sunderland to stay up but that without that rivalry they now wouldn't value Hunt at 5m but a lot lower. Never really thought about this angle before
-
i'm generalising but players are unlikely to formally ask for a transfer - they lose out financially therefore there is often a media campaign generated by the player or his agent

The Impending Summer, George Gillett and Fancard Farce

when new stadium is opened will be interesting to see how many season tickets are available and how many seats kept for the "walk up" supporter what proportion of old trafford is season ticket? in theory i suppose you could sell all seats that way i.e. season ticket only -

Supply and demand - simple economics. They see a market and exploit it. On the one hand we have castigated previous owner and Parry for failing to take advantage of commercial opportunities. Yet when the club does set out making money it gets castigated on here. Football is a business and if we want to compete with United then we have to be as ruthless commercially as United are. Of course people will be annoyed but same people would have been outraged when Hitachi appeared on our kit. Anyway with new stadium planned shouldn't the st waiting list be cleared then. Strikes me that a lot of dead people have STs or are on the list. People play the system when it suits them. -
is casillas injured reina to come on and save a few penalties?

great finish would be an excellent signing for us any chance we could get him - 25/30m
-
salary cap would sort it out uefa could do that instead of the foreigner rule if they want to reduce english clubs dominance
-
ok. united couldn't write off a 30m signing either. chelsea can buy a player for 30m. if he works then great, if not they could get rid of him for nothing and not worry no other club in the world (apart maybe from real madrid) could do that but they risk turning into real madrid where manager is sacked if they fail to win champions league or go through patchy form. they should win league year in and out but champions league is knock out so never certain if united lose ronaldo and his replacement(s) don't work out then that would affect them likewise if we were to lose torres with chelsea they don't have that risk
-
reckon we'll get him for 10m plus carson
-
true enough. imo mourinho leaving and ronaldo's last two exceptional seasons has allowed united to compete with (and beat) chelsea. but two years ago i really thought chelsea would be winning league for forseeable future simply because of the quality of their squad and ability to have good cover in all positions. for us to win the league we have to risk blowing all our budget on a torres type signing and hope they stay fit they could effectively write off a 30m signing in shevchenko. we couldn't do that
-
I never said they were s*** but they haven't domninated in the manner a team with virtually unlimited resources might be expected to.
-
doesn't matter in some ways who they get in i thought they would dominate with all their money but it didn't last if they sign torres, kaka, deco then drogba, lampard et al will leave interesting though if big phil decides he wants ronaldo at stamford bridge. ferguson might literally explode
-
much prefer us to do this that what we used to do which was basically give away players as for bidding - barry wants to come - why should we increase our bid hugely - its like buying a house - small increases each time or if you're chelsea buying wright phillips who is valued at 17m you offer 24m
-
torres villa babel gerrard kuyt barry masch skrtel carra agger reina It's on.
-
how do villa and torres link up for spain haven't seen much of spain play but heard some views that they don't complement each other separate point - anybody who thinks we should have hung on to anelka - look at his shot into side netting last night when cross was on - it was cisséesque
-
20m net spend wouldn't be bad alonso pays for barry riise for the two full backs crouch, carson would pay for a 20m player 20m on top of that i'd take two players in 20m bracket if they have impact torres did
-
reported to be back in training in may skrtel/agger centre half combination would allow us to defend much higher line defence with carra there as well and sami as back up looks strong assuming new full back is as good as expected

united about to sell their best player too. that will mess up their net spending for a while at least re ramsey - we were all clambouring for signings to improve first team and no more potential or squad players i'd prefer to hang on to the 5m in case we need to use it to go after a villa/ribery type signing
