  14. could a sport not take off under it's own steam (not using the varcity route) through marketing, sponsorship and tv money? surely there are enough people for whom the varcity route is closed who would love to engage with a sport that is more organic (for want of a better word)?
  15. partnerships are so (obviously) vital when it comes to centre backs - a strong argument could be made for both terry and carragher being in a top 5, but how many people would play them together? Cannavaro Carvalho Chivu Marquez Toure
  16. isn't it the case that it is already the most popular participant sport for kids already? so it should just be a case of keeping the kids interested into adulthood. which is where marketing and beckham come in I suppose...?
  17. credit to you for trying to get on. I can't imagine how it would be possible to talk about the issue in such circumstances without anger and emotion getting the better of you. Anger is in my opinion the correct response to MCKenzie and the BBC's handling of this. Over opinionated types with little regard for fact and no personal connection to events get to hold forth and end up making an impression, whilst stories like those told by JRC are never aired where they are needed most.
  18. Grandstand definitely transmitted live pictures, but only AFTER the game had been stopped. ie when it became a news item. And Knox above is right - one of the 'researchers' they employ to filter the calls should have known definitively, if not the presenter him/herself.
  19. the standard of caller to any of R5s phone ins is desperate and nobody should be surprised that it is mental midgets with no concept of rational objectivity who get aired. It makes compelling radio apparently. It seems again a gross misjudgment by the BBC to have this as a subject for a phone in. As has been said a million times, this is not about opinion. There are facts. And there are lies. That is the end of it - McKenzie is entitled to an opinion, he is not entitled to disseminate blatant lies without censure.
  20. the piece by Williams suggesting that Rafa was clueless and a mere bystander in our triumphant champions league campaign was in yesterdays paper.
  21. It wasn't live. I was listening to the radio and when it became apparent that something was wrong (initially reported as a 'disturbance 'on the radio if I recall correctly) I turned on the box. Grandstand had live pictures as the match of the day cameras were there.

  24. "Traoré's tall, athletic, has a great left foot and gets up and down," said a salivating Redknapp. "I'm well pleased to get him at that price. He's versatile - he's a left-back but can also play on the left side of central defence. I watched him a lot during his Liverpool days. At Chelsea, when Liverpool knocked them out of the Champions League, he was man of the match. You don't play in the Champions League final if you are a mug."
