weird atmosphere all round! Mixed emotions on seeing Torres and Suarez - very much what could have been if he'd stayed! I'm glad Torres got a decent reception and also enjoyed the Terry booing! Pepe and Kuyt's half time bit was cracking too - first time ever i've enjoyed the half time "entertainment"!!

Did he actually play advantage? Looked like he just wasn't going to give foul and it just worked out for us despite him!

It is the end of an era and he has epitomised our club for years but age was always going to catch up with him. He obviously wants to keep playing but can't maintain the incredibly high standards he has set for himself in the past. It is a great opportunity for him to do something different in a less taxing league, earn even more of a fortune and escape the pressure of being expected to carry the club on his shoulders. I'm sure he will be back and he will be even better for the experience. Why the club weren't prepared for this day and haven't bedded in a replacement is a different question?

We showed when Torres went that big chunks of money are not worth it! All that happens is everyone else's price goes up and you replace world class player with over priced dross. We need to find money to reinforce to build with Suarez not be tempted to start selling better players.

that could actually work - though you are still subject to interpretation of the panel and you know Luis is held to different standards than the rest of Football! Young, Bale, Rooney etc are just fouled cost they are so quick and get caught where as evil Luis (who bites off baby's heads and trips up old ladies) deliberately chooses to dive in a shameful betrayal of football.

i almost choked on my tea at the Johnson comment! Typical to demonise Suarez but his own English player was just misunderstood. You can see it already as the Everton players take turns to go through Suarez & Sterling and the referee grins and waves it all away whilst Luis gets more and more frustrated. Would be nice to see Marriner decide in his head that he is going to referee the game on the day as it is played rather than as Moyes dictates in the media. Gerrard needs to be at the ref from the start, if he can't do that as captain someone else needs to.

Really positive performance. Even given Gomel's level - we've seen us make hard work of this type of game before. Suarez looked really sharp and his link ups with Borini were promising too! Just hoping we keep Agger!

but any transfer fee would be offset by paying off his contract. i just cant see a situation with his age/ injury record and affinity for Liverpool that would make another club offer enough to make it worth us selling him or that he would be offered terms that would make him want to leave - it is not like Madrid or Barcelona are going to be in for him.

isn't it only classic Moneyball if someone is willing to overpay for him? not sure we would get enough for him from another team these days to replace what he represents/can still offer. I agree he is on a the downward curve of his career and he will become less influential but he is still one of our better players. Unless someone made us a mad offer then harnessing what he can still do and channeling it better for the team is surely a better option.

Played very well today and keeps improving which is great to see. I love his attitude! Still not sure that he will be good enough to be first choice starter in a title challenging team but he is working hard at proving the doubters wrong.
