I know we always talk about the various positions LB, RB, RW, LW etc., but when I look at our matches this season and regardless of who we played (except for Middlesborough when we had an off day), we always control matches, our defense is comfortable, midfield is bossing the game, and Reina is sleeping as he has nothing to do. But where is the weakness? It has been unlocking tight defenses and converting draws to wins at home against lesser opposition. Everyone after Real's and Man U game admits that if we had Torres fit, then we wouldn't just be level with the scum, but probably ahead of them. So surely the answer for next season must be a quality forward back up for Torres who can also play along side him and a top play-maker. For me, I would like to see Van Persie and Ribery as the only 2 signings we make next year with our limited funds and resources.

On a serious note, I have not had the privilege to see Souness or other Liverpool greats, but he is definitely the best English player I have actually seen and that includes Barnes. When I compare him to international players who won the golden ball or European player of the year since the mid eighties, there are only 3 players that I think are better than him that I have witnessed play: Maradona Platini Zidane He is already a legend and it will be a crime if he finishes his playing career without a PL medal.

I thought it was cool in a funny way. I think he was trying to protect his young compatriot. But this is exactly the reason (like I said on the Real Madrid thread), that he is a quality DM and not an RB and should only be used in an emergency in the RB position. A better team would have exposed him positionally, no doubt about that.

Yes, it was cool when towards the end of the match he even provided cover for Insua on the LB side of the pitch. It would be amazing to have real quality RB like Alves, but quality cost money!

I am counting no chickens as well. Difficult match. I still thing Real can be dangerous away and have quality players to turn a 1-0 deficit easily. I know we are strong in Europe and Benetiz will have every aspect covered, but we may need some luck on the night. I hope we go for the kill and start positive rather than definsive. Also after the monumental performance by Masch and Xabi in Madrid, I don't want that partnership breaking, Masch as RB against Sunderland is one thing, but he is a DM and the best in the world at that. He does remind me of Forlan with Man U. I don't think the physical aspects and pace of the game in the PL suits him. But probably few years in Spain where he can develop his football, then he will be a hot property. He definitely has skills and the right attitude for a young footballer and I do like him as a prospect, but not sure many will be as patient as me.
